Default Accessing network shares on iPhone

    Hi,

Is there a possibility to access network shares (I guess through samba, the share is on a windows machine) via wifi on the iphone and use it in the iPod application on the iphone.

I have a large music collection on a server instead of syncing the music through iTunes, and only have a part of it available on the iPhone I wonder if it is possible to tell the iPhone to use the network share and play the music directly from there.

If you are familiar with xbmc (xbox media center), it allows you to do the same thing.

I understand this will only work if I have access to the network, meaning being at home, but I am willing to live with that limitation.

    Thanks for your answers

If all that you want is music, check this out

I'm using it with TurboSIM in Brazil with TIM.
Loved the solution, hated the customs. My phone was cheaper then the SIM.

This looks like a good tip and I will give it a try. However it is not exactly what i am looking for, i does not use the "ipod" player on the Iphone so you don't get its benefits (the cool coverflow interface) and you have to register with them in order to use it.

So its not real network access

I am greatful for your tip however and will try it just if someone has another suggestion/solution please feel free to point me in the right direction

I dunno if you might find this workaround intresting or not, but I managed to access my mp3's collection via an http server installed on my local LAN: I can browse the LAN file using Safari but for some reasons the quicktime plugin starts but can't play the mp3's On the other hand, if I browse the mp3's inside the iPhone (using lighttpd server) the Safari plugin can play the files indeed.. and I don't understand what is the difference...

At the risk of mentioning the obvious, have you already tried iPhone remote aka telekinesis? Among other things, it supports streaming music and videos, browsing files, etc. over https.
