Default [1.1.3] Converting Video's with different audio tracks & subtitles

Like everybody knows, converting through a program like Handbrake will force you to burn the subtitles into the movie. Since update 1.1.3 came out, there is a possibility to add subtitles and different audio languages and be able to switch between them.

Now my question: how to convert a DVD to this new format in which I can choose to have a subtitle or not? Does anyone know?

I installed the program, but I don't see an option for subtitles. How do you access it?

    Hi!

Since Fw 1.1.3 went out I started searching for a way to add subtitles to .m4v movies for iPhone and iPod Touch.
I use Quicktime Pro for exporting and converting to that format but I'm not able to add subtitles to them.
I am not talking of burning the subtitles into the movie or Closed Captioning. You can see that option in the new iPhone User Guide on Apple site.
At first I guessed it was only available for rented or bough movies thought iTMS, but I realized that the option for subtitles exists in Quicktime and iTunes.
I started to search on the Apple site and I found that you can add Text Track to a movie so it can display titles and subtitles. I spent a couple of days to figure a way to convert .srt to .txt with descriptors so that I could add the text track.
You can do that using the program TitleLAB. It is freeware so you will find it easily, just google for it.
I then added the text track, saved it as a .mov file but in the subtitles option it said Off, with no options. The subtitles were there, but they were always on because the text track was always active; it could be unchecked under Movie Properties. Since Quicktime doesn't recognize it as subtitles, when you convert to the iPhone movie format, the text track will disappear.
I spent hours on google and others forums but no one has a clue how to do it.
One of the improvements on 1.1.3 Fw was the ability to switch between different subtitles but it seems that no one cares about it, even Apple! They have no information how to do it and the only references they have for adding subtitles to a movie in Quicktime, doesn't work, it just add a text track that isn't even recognized as a subtitle.
If anyone can figure a way please post it here.

    Thank you.

I converted a video to a .mov that can play on the iPhone using Total Video Converter, then I added a text track to it using QuickTime. It is visible and always on in QuickTime, but on the iPhone it still doesn't show up. At least the converted video contains the text track...

I can also add the text track but it doesn't show on the iPhone. We must be doing something wrong because the text track is always active on quicktime but it doesn't recognise it as a subtitle. The subtitle option is not available.
I think that when we figure out how to add a text track wich is recognised by quicktime as a subtitle, it will show on the iPhone when we convert to it using the export feature on Quicktime Pro.
If someone figure a way please post it here.
    Thanks!

I am not sure what the difference between Subtitles and Closed Captioning, but Closed Captioning is accessible through the iPod settings preferences. You cannot easily turn it on and off like you can change languages from the onscreen control panel.

I think Mac users are going to have to wait for HandBrake to define and include this ability in future updates.
