    Default Semthex's opinion about efi

Semthex what's your opinion about efi? Did you ever look at it? I think breaking the efi code is much better approach than breaking the kernel. Do you think it's hard to break EFI? I'm curious!

breaking kernel efi code - need to replace about 500 bytes, breaking efi itself - nobody know

Netkas is pretty rigth if it comes to patch efi, that is not even worth the trouble.

I looked into efi before and now again for other reason but that is currently in development work.

In general... why anyone worrys on EFI?

Couldn't we solve most of the GFX support issues with ATI and nVIDIA cards once for all by emulating the EFI with a module that would "redirect" their video BIOS ?
This could also bring bootcamp support, a real "mac partition" support (without the mixed GUID type from the dev machines), and also enhance support for a lot of other hardwares that rely to EFI.

So my question is : why does the "EFI approach" get so less attention ?

If you want to go the EFI way for GFX cards, you would also need to emulate an EFI ROM for each specific GFX card model. I doubt this would be easy to do...
Original Mac Intel GFX cards have dual ROMs (nVIDIA) with first part standard PC ROM (for boot camp) and second part, compressed/encoded EFI specific ROM (for OS X)
ATI (X1900XT) for MacPro have an EFI only ROM and the PC/BIOS ROM is emulated AFAIK (which is way MacPro owners do have much more issues with X1900XT in Windows)

No need of emulating each ROM if the EFI EMU can make a bridge between the hardware video BIOS (or an image) and the system by dynamiquely converting EFI calls to BIOS calls. There's a lot of different ways to proceed actually, but the question is to know if it would be that usefull to "fix" this EFI issue.
