This method still does not work on the MC model phones (one those have cable and itunes logo at startup). Simply because spirit needs the phone in ready condition for jailbreak.
I did everything as given in the link, even arranged for a valid AT&T sim, but then again got stuck as the phone is in the cable itunes logo condition.
    Any suggestions ?

How did you get stuck? was it after you restored as mentioned in the post or was it after you ran spirit?

Are you sure it is in the same state after the restore?

    - The "last ditch technique" should stop at this screen (That is recovery mode)

    • This is the same screen you get when you have a tethered jailbreak (however the way to get past this screen is different)
    • Then you need to run either rslite or iRecovery to get past the subsequent recovery screen. Using rslite, you'd do:

    % rslite
rslite v0.2 - by the iPhone Dev Team, 2009.
    --THIS IS AN UNSUPPORTED TOOL--

    Connecting...
    [Recovery] setenv auto-boot true
    [Recovery] saveenv
    [Recovery] reboot
    If the screen looks like:

Then you need to make sure you have a SIM that can be activated with iTunes

Abolutely.. same screen, did all the steps followed by iRecovery, but then after :

    [Recovery] setenv auto-boot true
    [Recovery] saveenv
    [Recovery] reboot

the phone reboots and comes to the same state again.. which is with cable and itunes without emergency call option. And itunes reads it as in recovery mode.
