i do not see what you did, I did the same thing, I had an iphone locked to Orange, I got the orange SIM and inserted, altho like you said the phone was stuck at "waiting for activation", when you are at this stage, the "emergency screen" disapears and you get the normal "slide to unlock", no need to wait for activation.
I ran spirit at this stage, then blacksn0w from cydia and it works fine, the waiting for activation disapeared after spirit & blacksn0w.

I think the "waiting for activation" message is just a delay somewhere on the network. The other day, i restored my iphone 3GS (with legit AT&T contract). After restore, itunes "activated" the phone ... meaning I'm no longer at the "slide for emergency" screen. Once i'm in the springboard, the "waiting for activation" is still there. Without waiting for the message to say "phone is activated", i went ahead and jailbroke the phone. Everything is fine. My "push" application works so I know the phone was activated correctly.

Conclusion, I think what spirit need is just to get past that "slide for emergency" then you can proceed.

Yup, thats what you need, but in my case I wasnt able to place a call after unlock because the iphone is activated msg never appeared.

dube, I had a similar issue. used the last ditch method and while connecting to itunes that had been used with a legit Vivo (Brazil) iphone, it recognized as a new phone or asking to restore from previous backup. Selected new and kept getting the 'waiting for activation' msg.

Ran Spirit. my firmware is 3.1.3 on a new bootrom iphone 3GS, modem baseband is 05.11.07.

Blacksn0w installs but then the iphone gets really slow, reboot several times, no wi-fi, bluetooth or network signal.

My AT&T simcard was never active. If I uninstall blacksn0w, I get a fully functional iphone (except for phone signal) again.

Would that be because of a 'semi activated' state? Should I restore back and try to get a AT&T card to activate?

    Hi

Found something unusual with SPIRIT - not sure if others have seen this where the phone DOES connect to a telco carrier, to activate, but then doesn't afterwards..

My old (working) iphone is 3gs 6.08,5.12.01/3.1.3 - and i used it on VIRGIN mobile AU for a couple of months, then I ran SPIRIT- that phone was JB'd fine.

Then I got a 2nd phone (broken) from a friend. Fixed it. Inserted my SIM, and connected it up. iTunes asked if it's a replacement - I said yes. Restored phone, to same 6.08/5.12.01/3.1.3, but not JB.

Run SPIRIT - restored apps - but phone kept complaining about activation.

It will not connect to any TELCO carrier...Left 3g off.

Took phone on road and used it as GPS for an hour or so, and it connected to the telco - and a window came up "Phone is activated". It stayed connected to telco for a couple of minutes, and now will not connect again to telco.

    WTF???

Looks like a terminology confusion. Spirit is impossible to run when you are on the 'slide for emergency call' screen, not when you see a 'waiting for activation' message.
Copying activation records seems really unnecessary because if you have blacksn0w/ultrasn0w working properly and get signal, you will get an 'activation complete' pop-up.

Comex clearly stated iphone needs to be activated before running Spirit or it will not work.
