Default spirit - activation - camera app + solution

After jailbreaking with the latest spirit release (the fixed photo one), I was surprised that the camera app was not working properly. I took photos but they would never show in the photos library and if i try to record a video it would just hang.

I remembered that when I was activating, I did not wait for the activation, as soon as the message "waiting for activation" popped up and I got springboard access, I just closed itunes and ran spirit. IT seems that it messed up the permissions on the media folder.

so if anyone is having problems with getting the photos displayed after spirit, what needs to be done is:
    - install openssh
    - login to the iphone (winscp for example if on windows)
    - go to the folder var/mobile
    - set the permissions on the media folder to 0777 and check "recursive"
    - reboot the phone.

    everything should be working.

I really would not advise this at all. That is a sledgehammer approach to solving this problem. It also opens up a huge security hole.

If permissions are the problem, lets put some effort into finding which files need to have their permission modified. Not all files.

you are right, if one has time, it should be tackled like you said but I just wanted it to work.
I started putting permissions one by one, but I ended up with the video icon completely missing, it solved it by setting the whole media recursively.
But I am wondering is this is an issue with activation or is it with Spirit?

    Could be either.

0777 means anyone (including an anonymous user) has read/write and execute permissions on your files.

    A safer option might be 0755 and also a chown -R mobile:mobile

Still think you are better off looking for files that are not owned by mobile.

There was an issue with the first release of Spirit and deleting photos. Maybe this is related. Otherwise my guess is that you restored from iTunes backup - this can cause such problems.
