Default Rumors about 4.0.1 / on 3.1.3 now should i upgrade and get my 4.0 shsh ?

i found a post about apple is releasing ios4.0.1 in few days to fix the ongoing reception issue. i m now on 3.1.3 with shsh saved, should i upgrade to 4.0 and save my 4.0 shsh ? or i m good with 3.1.3 shsh saved. the thing i m worrying about is if i upgraded to 4.0 and i don't have my 4.0 saved i will be forced to upgrade to upgrade to 4.0.1 if i need to restore my phone ?

The older SHSH the better (in general)

To correct a popular misconception - you don't need to restore/upgrade (or even jailbreak) to save your SHSH.

Firstly... Once you have allowed cydia to "make your life easier" then Saurik's process will automatically retrieve and save your SHSH for later OS versions.

Secondly - you can use TinyUmbrella to request and save a SHSH without even jailbreaking or upgrading to the iOS version that the SHSH is for.

The fine print about Saurik's server.
As Saurik has millions of iDevices registered with "make my life easier" he has a huge number of SHSH to request each time Apple releases a new iOS version, to avoid his servers being blacklisted, he requests the SHSH in batches and it takes quite a while (days or weeks) but it does eventually happen.

You should definitely backup your 4.0 SHSH - with TinyUmbrella. This is the safest approach.

Also to be clear. Apple has said the 4.0.1 update will only fix the way the signal strength is displayed on the screen. According to Apple there is no reception issue. This means 4.0.1 will be a non-essential baseband upgrade and you should try to prevent the baseband upgrade if you can. (old bootrom 3GS only via custom IPSW)

Your phone does not need to be on 4.0 to get 4.0 shsh.
Just get TinyUmbrella, plug in your phone, click on save shsh... It's simple as that.
