jailbreak 3.1.3 3gs?
I'm completely new to the whole thing... so forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions.
Anyway, I've just got a brand new 3gs since last sunday. The current firmware of the iPhone is 3.1.3. Is it possible to jailbreak this phone with Spirit? If so... what do I need to do before jailbreaking the phone? Back up the iPhone? I remember the last time when I connected iPhone with iTunes, the top message in the program showed something like ''Backing up'' or something similar. So, I'm not sure if that has to do with anything.
Thanks in advance ... !

My understanding is that the only pre-req for the Spirit jailbreak is that your phone be activated. So long as you're activated, that should be all you need.
It is ALWAYS recommended to plug your phone into iTunes and sync your contacts, photos, etc. and do a phone backup before doing anything like this, just so that you have it in case anything happens.

Thanks. So, I use AutoSHSH or w/e to create a backup of my iPhone's firmware? Should I use AutoSHSH or something else?

Use the Firmware Umbrella -- search the forums. AutoSHSH is not supported here, it's one of iH8sn0ws tools, and effectively, all it is is a rebranded, self-contained version of the Firmware Umbrella with no recognition given to the original authors anyways.
That said, it *should* work, but if it doesn't, no one here will help with it, so I'd recommend against it. TinyTSS + Firmware Umbrella are the way to go, and you can find info about them in the stickies in their respective forums.
Good luck!

When you say "made a backup" do you mean that you have backed up your SHSH for 3.1.3 (using firmware umbrella or AutoSHSH) or that you have let iTunes backup the contents of your phone?

Both
I used iTunes to back up the content of my iPhone.
I then used Firmware Umbrella to create a backup of my 3.1.3 firmware from the Apple servers. And in the end, the program created a 3.1.3 shsh file for me.
Did I do the right thing?
