Default iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 bricked - Help needed!

    Hi,

I wanted to unlock my 3GS 3.1.3. I used Spirit for jailbreaking. That worked perfectly. After that I started Cydia and installed ultrasn0w from ultrasn0w.com. Then my iPhone got stuck for roughly 30 mins in "Reloading Data". I turned the phone off by pressing sleep + home button. After that I couldn't reboot anymore. It go stuck with the Apple logo and is doing nothing. I tried to restore with iTunes 9.1.1 but it always says that my iPhone couldn't be restored because it isn't eligible for the requested build. I tried to restore it with a bunch of different firmware versions (3.1.1, 3.1.2 and 3.1.3). I also tried restoring with the saurik server (74.208.10.249) but it didn't work. Same error message.

What can I do now? Is my iPhone just a nice paperweight now? ;o(

if you have shsh blobs cydia/localhost try restoring to 3.1.3 or 3.1.2
activate using a valid sim followed by ultrasn0w unlock.

I'm having the exact same problem as Paul. I didn't back up my phone, and really have no idea what I'm doing. (my friend did the jailbreak/unlock process for me but he's out of the country now) I don't know what SHSH blobs are..
can anyone please give a step by step way of getting the iphone to work again?? Thanks!

If you have never tried to restore via saurik's server before now - or used The firmware umbrella then you don't have a SHSH for 3.1.3 and you are 100% stuck right now. Get your SHSH for 4.0.1 and wait for a 4.0 jailbreak.

I haven't tried anything on sauriks server or firmware umbrella. How do I get SHSH for 4.0.1?

via TinyUmbrella (new name for The Firmware Umbrella)

    The Firmware Umbrella

Download, extract (copy out of DMG on mac)
    Connect 3GS to computer
    Run TinyUmbrella (requires java)
    Autodetects iPhone
Click on save SHSH and look at the log - you should not get any errors.

That will save your SHSH for 4.0.1 locally and with Saurik's server.
You don't even need to be jailbroken.

Okay thanks. Will that fix my iphone because it's frozen right now or do I need to upgrade to OS 4 first by getting the newest itunes? (someone told me that might work).
So basically, should I get the new itunes and then do this or do tiny umbrella first or only do tiny umbrella?
Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I get my iphone working again... I don't have much use for a "brick"

Do you have "exactly the same problem?" are you running 3.1.3 jailbroken with spirit - what unlock did you use? What did you do that caused the iPhone to freeze?

You have not really given enough details to give advice on solving the problem as-is.

There is a 4.0.x jailbreak out now. However, like spirit it requires that you can activate the iPhone before jailbreak. That means you need a SIM card from the carrier the iPhone was carrier locked to. This is assuming you need to unlock. (again not enough details)

Sorry, I'll try to explain better. My problems are the same as Paul's (that's how I found this thread). Basically "I wanted to unlock my 3GS 3.1.3. I used Spirit for jailbreaking. That worked perfectly. After that I started Cydia and installed ultrasn0w from ultrasn0w.com. Then my iPhone got stuck for roughly 30 mins in "Reloading Data". I tried to restore with iTunes 9.1.1 but it always says that my iPhone couldn't be restored because it isn't eligible for the requested build."
That's exactly what happened to me. Right now it is stuck with either the Apple logo or shows a screen with an empty (red) battery but never charges. I just saw that the jailbreak was out for OS4 - I didn't want to upgrade before because I wanted to restore it without going to 4. Since I have itunes 9.1.1 and not the newest one, I think that might be why it wouldn't let me restore the phone before (not eligible for requested build). I'm trying to download the newest itunes but my internet is super slow here so its going to take several hours.

I have the original sim card, but I'm in a different country now, and my original carrier locked it, which is why I needed to unlock it in the first place - so that I can actually use it as a phone here. Do I need to have the original sim in it in order to unlock properly? Maybe that's why it crashed in the first place - I didn't have any sim card in it.

I'm pretty new to this stuff. My friend did the jailbreak/unlock but when it messed up he didn't know how to fix it and is gone now anyway. I really appreciate the help!

That doesn't have anything to do with iTunes revision -- that specifically means that the version firmware you are attempting to flash to the phone is no longer considered 'legitimate' by Apple. They require the firmwares to be signed at the time of flashing ("Verifying Restore with Apple" portion of the restore). If they aren't signing the firmware revision, you receive that error.

At this point, you've got a few options, one of them is pretty much a be-all/end-all solution, but it may have a few negative repercussions. The other is a little more finesse but it doesn't always work.

    1) Plug the phone into your computer. It won't charge presently.
    2) Run blackra1n and let it sit open with the iPhone connected to your computer.
    3) Let the phone remain plugged in to your computer until the battery dies and the phone reboots.
    4) During the reboot process, blackra1n will detect the phone and will kick it out of reboot/recovery mode and kick back to the home screen.

If that doesn't work, the main option you've got is to restore to factory 4.0.1 (it's all they're signing right now) and use JailbreakMe to jailbreak. I don't recommend setting your phone up from a backup of the 3.x.x firmware, you should set it up as new. I understand this means you'll lose your SMS history and Call History, if this is of importance to you, you can use any of the iPhone backup browsers to pull these databases out and then replace them on the phone after the jailbreak.
