i need some serious help jailbreaking my 3gs with 4.0
Ive been researching how to jailbreak my iphone recently. Upon getting 4.0, i realised that its simply not that great. I really really want to jailbreak but i have never jailbroken before thus i have no blobs. Is it possible for me to downgrade from 4.0 to 3.1.3 and then jailbreak. i have the new bootrom. Im frustrated to no end. any and all help would be appreciated. i fear the worst.

From what i have read on here and my own trys, you CAN'Tdowngrade your iphone from 4.0 Unless you have backups from tinyunbrella or saurik's server.

now before you restore with another ipsw itunes sends a restore request for approval to apple and if itunes receives approval to restore then it will restore but the problem is apple only approves 4.0 now.

The answers are correct. There have been warnings about backing up your SHSH blobs since september. Prior to that both geohot and devteam advised backing up IBEC/IBSS (which was later discovered to be not enough for a full restore/downgrade)
With Firmware Umbrella you did not even need to jailbreak to backup your SHSH blob. So your initial excuse of never having jailbroken is irrelevant.
Advice for 3GS owners with new bootroms was to avoid iOS 4.0 and stay with OS 3.1.2 - again repeated ad nauseum here and in other jailbreaking forums. It was only (somewhat) safe for a 3GS user to try iOS 4.0 if you had SHSH blobs.
The immediate future seems to be either userland jailbreaks or tethered jailbreaks for 3GS and newer - be aware of this and start being safe - get your 4.0 SHSH before 4.0.1 comes out!
