Help! Stuck on unresponsive black screen
I am stuck on the black screen in my iphone 3GS. Here's what I did:
iphone details: 3GS OS 3.1.3 and 5.12.01 baseband and old bootrom (serial number 3rd, 4th, 5th digits: 928).
I did the spirit jailbreak yesterday, which went through flawlessly.
I launched cydia and allowed it to go through the updates.
I was also able to click on the "make my life easier" option in Cydia and got the message that "This device has a pending TSS request".
I then installed spirit2pwn.
I think this also was successful.
I launched Sn0wbreeze 1.6.2 and built a custom 4.0 IPSW.
During all this time, my phone was connected to the computer and I suddenly noticed that the screen was blank. I removed the phone and tried to reboot it by holding the home+sleep button, but nothing happens. The screen is completely black.
However, when I connect the phone back, itunes reports that it has detected a phone in recovery mode and needs to be restored. I still do not get any display on the iphone. No apple logo..nothing.
I tried restoring to the custom 4.0 ipsw. This gives a 1600 error.
If I try restoring to stock 3.1.3, I get a "Restore error 3194". During both of these tries, there is still nothing coming up on screen on the iphone.
I also tried irecovery and it does not detect the iphone.
What are my options? I am guessing spirit2pwn must have caused this. My part number is MC136LL/A. I guess, I should not have used spirit2pwn on this phone. Can I recover from this?
i think you made mistake by applying spirit2pwn on a new bootrom.
as far as my understanding "you have no choice"
wait till iphone 4 unlock or
update your phone and activate using a valid sim (use it like an ipod)
hey! got my iphone out of the black screen and in working condition! (not gonna bother with jailbreak for a short while till something stable comes out).
phone was previously unresponsive after a failed spirit2pwn attempt, and gave a white screen when restored in itunes, and error 28 (couldnt restore even to iOS4)
Basically what I did after trying many things was to
1) Leave Iphone disconnected, and took a nap to chill.. got up about after 3hrs lol
2) Pointed my host file to Sauriks server: Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik)
So, open the file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.
Now, when iTunes thinks it is talking to Apple, it is talking to Cydia instead. Doing this will allow iTunes to access signatures already stored by Cydia's "on file" feature.
3) Downloaded the IPSW file for 3.1.3 using iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download
3) Shift + restore in iTunes and pointed it to the 3.1.3 firmware
4) Restored with backed-up data from previous sync in iTunes
hope it works for you. I did get my SHSH files from tinyumbrella when I was in 3.1.3 previously, but not too sure if that actually helped.
Thanks for responding, folks.
I did try that approach of modifying the hosts file as well, but it did not work for me. I thought when I selected the "make my life easier" option in Cydia, my 3.1.3 SHSH would be cached on Saurik's server. But, maybe it did not happen. I still get the 3194 error. I will try again today.
It's too late to make your life easier, Apple stopped signing 3.1.3 a while ago.
