Remember that jailbreakme.com works on 3.1.3 as well as 4.0 and 4.0.1 - jailbreakme isn't limited to a specific version of iTunes like Spirit is.

use tinyumbrella. it can kick out your phone from reset state. search in web for download links for tiny umbrella.
Not sure who you're replying to -- thread has been dead for a few months and your comment doesn't seem applicable, and could be incorrect -- if someone did install Spirit with iTunes 9.2 and the phone started bootlooping, tinyumbrella wouldn't necessarily kick it out of recovery mode. In any case...
