Uninstall iTunes completely using the following instructions. Be sure to restart.
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

Download and install iTunes 8.1.1 be sure to restart afterwards

Grab a copy of the 2.2.1 firmware http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....1_Restore.ipsw

Put the iPhone in DFU mode using this guide http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/54082.htm

shift-click restore in iTunes and select the downloaded ipsw. Ignore any 16xx errors you recieved.

Your unlock will not be removed but you will need hacktivation if you cannot activate legitimately with a SIM from the original carrier or you do not have an officially unlocked 2G iPhone.

Download quickpwn 2.2.5-2 and use this to jailbreak and if necessary kick your iPhone out of recovery mode

Jailbreak with with a sim card from an unofficiall carrier inserted. You can pick any jailbreak tool - quickpwn (2.x) or Pwnagetool (2.x) or redsn0w (3.0.x only), blackra1n RC3 (3.1.2 only), pwnagetool for (3.x) depending on your iPhone OS version and preference.

I used blackra1n to unlock an OTB iphone 2G with 3.1.2 but i dont have signal, can someone tell me what to do?

Blackra1n is not an unlock. It is a jailbreak

I can't think how it would be possible to have an OTB (out of the box) iPhone 2G as they are no longer being sold.

If you really have an iPhone 2G (and not a 3G iPhone) you need to use bootneuter to unlock. You can run bootneuter from within the blackra1n app which is installed onto your iPhone by jailbreaking with blackra1n.

You need to be very careful with bootneuter, it is possible to permanantly screw your iPhone up if you interrupt the re-flashing process.

The best way to run bootneuter is via a custom ipsw created with pwnagetool as this automates the unlocking process with bootneuter.

Yes, its actually an iphone 2G OTB, i sent a damaged 2G iphone to apple service in order to be repaired, they told me that they dont perform repairs in that version anymore so they offered a new one (same model i had 2G) for 200 usd, also offered last version 3GS for 700usd

i understand that pwnagetool runs in MAC, is there a way to unlock it with windows vista? if not, i will have to try to run it from the blackra1n app

yes pwnagetool is mac only (at the moment)

I would recommend the following:

1. Initial, jailbreak with blackra1n.
2. Shift-click restore in iTunes and load a pwnagetool created custom ipsw. You can download these custom ipsw files from the net, just search around a bit. We can't directly link to them on this forum though.

This will give you the jailbreak, plus the cleaner hacktivation and automated unlock.

Another option:

1. Put the iPhone into DFU mode and shift-click restore to OS 3.0
2. Jailbreak and unlock with Redsn0w

This will also give you the jailbreak, plus the cleaner hacktivation and automated unlock.
