    Default Unlocking using ziphone

I've been trying to unlock my new (well, used) iphone. I used Ziphone and all is running smooth until the process apparently finishes yet the green band below the process window keeps running without really ending the process.
I've read it works in three minutes so I'm guessing something is wrong.

Can anyone here help me on this one?

I've tried even restoring to its original condition and tried the ZiPhone again, with no success.

    Thanks for your help.

ZiPhone is NOT recommended. It only works at OS 1.x and has been known to cause problems due to the way it unlocks.

It took me a good while to realize the firmware in my iphone 3.2.1_7D11 (probably because I tried to actualize, which was my initial mistake here).

I've read that to use almost every program I need to downgrade the firmware to 2.1.1 but I'm clueless at how to do this, and Itunes doesn't let me "actualize" (the square is gray and lifeless).

How can I downgrade the firmware?

What iPhone mode do you have? Are you on mac or PC?

I'm on PC and all indicates this is an original Iphone (2g?) 8GB

I finally learned the secret of clicking "shift" but still, I can't find a proper firmware. I tried 2.2.1 and it failed. I'm trying 2.2 now to see if I'm lucky.
Yet it still needs to go throughout the unlock, jailbait etc... processes.

What's the best program to do this (considering I'm quite an ignorant of this matters).

    Update:
2.2 didn't work either. This one did run, but in the end it said it couldn't be restored due to error 20...

What version of iTunes are you running? Different versions of iTunes (and mobile driver) are required to restore different versions of the iPhone OS.

You need somewhere between 7.7 and 8.1.1 to restore OS 2.2.1 I would recommend iTunes 8.1.1

Be sure to uninstall all traces of iTunes and Mobile Device software first, then restart install new itunes and maybe even restart again before trying a restore.

Error 20 may be because you did not restore in DFU mode.

Is 2.2.1 the firmware I should be using? Or should I use another one even lower?

Why don't you just leave it at 3.1.2, Jailbreak and activate it with blackra1n and then download bootneuter form cydia. Bootneuter will unlock your iphone 2g for you with no problem.

    thanks x89car...

I'll try this method first. I've read that blackra1n doesn't help your phone to work with any carrier. Is that true?

Blackra1n is a jailbreak not an unlock.

2G iPhones are unlocked with BootNeuter (which is permanant once the onlock has run sucessfully one time on any OS version).

People often confuse hacktivation with unlock, hacktivation just patches out the connect to iTunes screen. Unlock actually changes the baseband to allow any SIM to be used in the iPhone.

Blackra1n has poor hacktivation and you may experience problems with that after you run blackra1n.

My suggestion is to run blackra1n (to get the low level jailbreak installed on 3.1.2) Then restore with a custom 3.1.2 ipsw created with pwnagetool.

This gives you jailbreak plus good activation on windows. If you run mac you have the advantage that you can skip the blackra1n step.
