I have:

Iphone 3G 8GB AT&T (loked)
Baseband: 05.12.01
firmware 3.1.3 (7E18)

I'm trying to follow this procedure:

1) with redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-3 and iPhone1, 2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw
- Just select "Install Cydia"

and get 3.1.3 jb

2) with sn0wbreeze-V1.6.2 and iPhone1, 2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw
- Follow this guide

jb and get IOS4.0 always Baseband: 05:12:01 (lthough I do not know what that means)

3) - I open Cydia
- Add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com
- I try and install ultrasn0w
- Reboot the iPhone

and get IOS4.0 unlocked jb

is all right?

and then.........

at the first step redsn0w I immediately returns the error "Unable to Recognize specified ipsw"


I tried
redsn0w 0.92 - 0.94 - 0.95b5-3 - 0.95b5-5
with all files
iPhone1, 2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
iPhone1, 2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw
iPhone1, 2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw
both on Windows 7 64bit on XP Professional (I have no MAC)

But nothing..... always same error!!!!!!!

mine identifies ones those i downloaded from itunes.. i had to download all of them

I am receiving the same "Unable to Recognize specified ipsw" as you. I am also trying to unlock the iphone 3g 8gb.

The only .ipsw files that Redsn0w will recogize are "iPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw" and "iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw". With all other .ipsw I receive that error message "Unable to Recognize specified ipsw".

Am I using an invalid .ipsw?

To jailbreak an iPhone 3G running iOS 3.1.2 or iOS 3.1.3 use redsn0w 0.9.2 and the following IPSW iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw - this can be downloaded from here http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm

What iOS version are you trying to jailbreak?

To both of you.. Redsn0w jailbreaks the iOS version that the iPhone is currently running. That means you need to know what iOS version your phone currently has. Tiny Umbrella can generally tell you this, even if you are stuck at the "slide for emergency" screen.

Once you know which iOS version you are running you need to find the correct version of redsn0w and the correct IPSW.

Redsn0w 0.9.2 jailbreaks iOS 3.0, 3.0.1 with an IPSW for iOS 3.0 that matches your model (2G, 3g, 3GS)
Redsn0w 0.9.2 jailbreaks iOS 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 with an IPSW for iOS 3.1.2 that matches your model (2G, 3G) (3GS 3.1.2 only)

Redsn0w 0.9.3 and 0.9.4 were limited betas and are not intended for general release.

Everything after redsn0w 0.9.2 has been a beta, but the 0.9.5 and 0.9.6 beta series have been actively improved with new features (so despite being betas, everyone is encouraged to try them)

redsn0w 0.9.5 (all betas) jailbreaks iOS 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 using an IPSW for 4.0 that supports your model (only for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (old bootrom/MB model))

redsn0w 0.9.6 (all betas) jailbreaks iOS 4.1 using an IPSW for 4.1 that supports your model (which models are supported, has varied with different betas)

redsn0w 0.9.6b3 to beta 6 jailbreaks iOS 4.2.1 using an IPSW for 4.2.1 that supports your model (tethered jailbreak only)
