Trouble jailbreaking
Hey frank8, I know I'm in the wrong place, but can you help me? I'm stuck.
Iphone 3GS 32Gb New. Firmware 3.1.2 Baseband 05.11.07
My iphone is Factory unlocked.
I already activated it.
But I want to jailbreak it, so I did shift+restore on itunes with my windows vista. My itunes version is 9.0.2
I used the custom firmware 3.1.2 NOT ACTIVATED for iPhone 3GS but it didn't work. I got the error 1604
Then I tried DFU mode, it also didn't work. I got the error 1600
Then I tried to shift+restore with the official firmware 3.1.2 (Not the custom one) and didn't work either. I got some error that said "The iPhone could not be restored. This device isn't rligible for the requested build".
Can someone help me how I can jailbreak my iPhone 3GS firmware 3.1.2

Firstly - if it is a new iPhone - you likely have the new bootrom and that does not work with custom IPSW. See - http://www.hackint0sh.org/f159/99540.htm#post473847 for details on how to confirm this.
Assuming you actually do have the old bootrom and access to a mac. The following information might be useful to you.
To jailbreak the first time with custom IPSW you need to actually run Pwnagetool and go through the whole process of making a custom IPSW, it will ask you if your phone is already pwned and you say no. Then it runs you through putting your iPhone into recovery mode and pwning the phone.
Only then can you restore a custom IPSW.
I recommend you find out your bootrom version, then use redsn0w to jailbreak. iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS on OS 3.1.2 Using RedSn0w (Windows)

Waitin for Reboot
Hi
I have a brand new iPhone 3G running on 3.0.1
I'm looking to jailbreak and unlock is using redsn0w 0.8
I downloaded the correct .ipsw and followed all the steps redsn0w instructed me on.
After putting my device into DFU mode, redsn0w loads a few things then gets stuck on the 2nd Waiting for Reboot.
It does nothing after that.
I have read that you can quickly unplug then plug it back in but that does nothing.
I need help on what to do.
**I don't know if this matters, but my computer says that the device can perform faster if i plug it into a hi-speed USB port. there are only 2 on my laptop and I have tried them both.
Kind of confusing.
Thank you in advance

The hi-speed usb port thing indicates that the device is detected as USB 2 but the port is only USB 1.1
See iPhone not recognized in iTunes for Windows for details and troubleshooting tips. If your computer is quite old, the ports may only support USB1.1 but it is more likely you have not installed the correct drivers to enable USB2 support.
Also if you have it plugged in via a USB hub, try plugging the iPhone directly into the computer instead. It is possible the USB hub could support only USB 1.1.
