I believe you can use blackra1n to tetherboot when you have jailbroken with redsn0w 0.9.2
Doubt that blackra1n is any better/faster than redsn0w in tetherboot, it sends a much larger payload to perform the tetherboot (due to that gratuitous blackra1n picture)

My thoughts exactly. I thought I'd had it confirmed that you could use BlackRa1n but I can't find the confirmation but as Olethros says, I would have thought it's more likely to be slower rather than quicker than RedSn0w.

From the dev team's redsn0w page.

To do a tethered boot after your late-model device resets for some reason, either run redsn0w again and select "Just boot tethered right now", or run blackra1n.

cause when i use redsnow you have to browse for the 3.1.2 ipsw and it verfies the file for a while before you can tether boot right? thats why i thought it was alot faster if i used blackrain .. ? so your sure i can use blackrain to boot sir? so i can give it a try

I think were are talking about different things.
My point was that the actual files that get sent to the 3GS to tetherboot are much smaller with redsn0w. So that part should take less time. I was not suggesting that the whole process should take less time.
I am lucky to have a 3GS with the old bootrom, so I can't actually test the tethered boot option.
The fact that redsn0w asks for the IPSW is something I consider a feature. Both with OS 3.0.1 and now 3.1.3 this has allowed limited "forwards jailbreak compatibility" for most iPod and iPhone models.
I understand for you, it is a pain and you are free to use blackra1n for this instead. Despite sending more data, the process is obviously more automated than the redsn0w tetherboot and that makes it effectively quicker.

Dear friends, as per the thread instructions, I have accessed the device manager and the following sentance was found from the Device Instance ID :
USB\VID_05AC&PID_1281\CPID:8920_CPRV:15_CPFM:03_SC EP:03_BDID:00_ECID:000000B3060D430E_IBFL:01_SRNM:[85951M9Q3NP]_IMEI:[012025007830139]
I cant seem to find any "iboot" numbers. Can anyone help out ?
Thanks in advance
