redsn0w 0.9.2 can jailbreak 3G on 3.1.3
Hey guys new to the forums and the iPhone community in general. I recently purchased an iPhone off Ebay that was using firmware 3.1.3. I was aware of the issues trying to jailbreak this firmware before hand, but figured I'd try.
So it came a couple of days ago, and now I'm ready to jailbreak it. It is a locked phone to the Rogers Wireless network here in Canada. I'm looking at all these jailbreaks and people are saying if your not with AT&T don't upgrade/jailbreak as their is no unlock. I'm assuming this doesn't apply to me as this is a locked phone. I would like some confirmation on this.
Anyways I tried my first jailbreak this morning, using sn0wbreeze. I did everything correctly until I had to restore the iPhone. Trying to restore it with my 'cooked' firmware I get error message 1604. Putting it into recovery mode instead of DFU mode gave me error 1600. So I choose to try iReb v 3.1.2 but still no luck.
I gave up on sn0wbreeze (put kept the 'cooked' firmware), and decided to try redsn0w 0.9.4. As I am writing this right now I am in the process of trying. I followed a tutorial on youtube. In short it says 1. Open redsn0w / 2. Browse the 3.1.2 firmware (not 3.1.3) / 3. Put phone into DFU mode when prompted / 4. Let redsn0w take care of the rest.
After putting it into DFU mode, redsn0w gets stuck at "Waiting for phone reboot". I unplugged it, tried again, it gets stuck at the same message. My only choice is to now restore it with official 3.1.3 firmware. Before doing that I actually tried something different, I tried restoring with the 'cooked' firmware once again, and it worked! No Error!.
My iPhone is now jailbroken!. Thanks to the person who told me to try out redsn0w. If anyone was having a similiar problem as me I would recommend you try this.
My phones specs are
Version: 3.1.3 (7E18)
i asked this the other day and il say the same thing to you, you cant do anything as yet
1) Factory 3.1.3 on a 3GS is not jailbreakable at present.
2) Baseband 05.12.01 is not unlockable at present.
Hate to say it but you're locked and jailed until the 4.0 OS general release or the iPhone Pro / iPhone HD launches in June/July and a new exploit is released.
Original poster has a 3G, that is carrier locked and does not require an unlock. Your advice is totally wrong.

The only thing the original poster did slightly wrong was to use redsn0w 0.9.4. The correct version to use is redsn0w 0.9.2 (0.9.4 was only designed for MC model iPod touches - you take a risk that it might not work on any other iPhone or iPod model)
This has all been discussed a million times before and this thread is redundant. Thread closed.
