Default Putting a dusty 3G back in its place:)

Hi, and thanks so much to everyone who keeps this webbie alive!
Been my savior many times back in the days, and hopefully it still is!
So, I put my Iphone 3G aside for a while, tried some different phones to compare, but none are even close in my opinion, so NOW..I want to get back up to date with my beautiful 3G!
The phone is currently running on
    Version: 3.0(7A341)
    ModemFirmware: 04.26.08

As far as I know, the newest, usable firmware is 3.1.3? or 3.1.2? (I'm not 100%)
I would LOVE if someone could guide me/help me through getting this beauty right back up where she belongs!^^
I know this might seem slacky, but the fact that I'm writing this 04:55 in the night, should be able to back me up on the explanation that I'm super busy and simply cannot remember how I did this stuff back in the days
I've been trying for some hours here and there, but earlier we only had like two different solutions..now there's ultrasn0w, yellowsn0w, blacksn0w, etcetcetcetc....Really messing with my head these days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Pm, or answer as comment<3
---I really just don't want to take any chances here..ended up using 2weeks 1.5years ago to get it working again after a mess-up

    Thank you!

    Default Reviving Your Iphone 3G

    Hello shorty6boy1,

Since you have a 3G, you are in a great position for a simple upgrade to the most recent and stable FW (since 3GS iphones are just mess with tethered and untethered jailbreaks). The most recent firmware is 3.1.3 for which there are no unlock tools available as it was a pointless update.

First off, a little explanation of the tools out there:

    Dev Team tools

Pwnagetool - iPhone jailbreaking application for Mac OS X that creates custom ipsw that preserves the baseband (ie does not update it)
Redsn0w - Jailbreak tool for any FW till 3.1.2
Ultrasn0w - unlock solution for any iPhone runnning BB 04.26.08 (FW 3.0)
Yellowsn0w - unlock solution for any iPhone runnning BB 02.28 (FW 2.x)

    Geohot tools

Blackra1n - software to jailbreak any iphone/iPod Touch
Blacksn0w - unlock solution for any iPhone runnning BB 05.11.07 (FW 3.1.2)

As for choosing the right tools, it would be better to stick with Dev Team tools as they are much more stable than those from Geohot. But note that the 3.1.2 firmware only has 1 unlock tool which is from Geohot; some people have had minor issues with it messing with wifi a bit but I am currently using it on my 3G and have no problems.

    So you have 2 options:
    - officially update to 3.1.2 through itunes then jailbreak with Redsn0w and unlock with Blacksn0w
    - create a custom 3.1.2 ipsw using Pwnagetool (if you have a a mac) which updates the firmware but preserves baseband at 04.26.08 and use Ultrasn0w to unlock

For proper instruction on getting your phone back up and running, follow the guides at the iClarified website which offers step by step instructions with pictures (link below).

    iClarified - Tutorials - iPhone

    Good luck.

P.S. One more note: STAY AWAY FROM 3.1.3 AT ALL COST as it was a pointless update which had one main purpose which was to mainly screw people with jailbroken iPhones.
Search, Read and Google your problems/questions before posting as almost every one of them has already been asked or resolved.

Redsn0w 0.9.2 supports jail-breaking up to 3.1.3 (redsn0w 0.9.4 supports jailbreaking late model 2nd gen iPod touches up to 3.1.3)

Redsn0w 0.9.5 (beta) supports jailbreaking 4.0b1 (for legit devels only)

Blackra1n only supports OS 3.1 and 3.1.2 (maybe also iPod Touches that shipped with 3.1.1).

Recommend you use pwnagetool to 3.1.3 iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3G on OS 3.1.3 Using PwnageTool (Mac) and Ultrasn0w iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G, 3GS Using UltraSn0w

most stable and reliable solution - allows you to run everything from the app store and keep a stable unlock. Some apps in Cydia still are only for 3.1.2.

If you are not on a mac (which will likely be your next question - again one answered many times before). You have three options.

Borrow a friend's mac to use Pwnagetool.

Jailbreak 3.0 with redsn0w (if it has not been jailbroken already) and then download a pre-made and activated custom IPSW (3.1.2 or 3.1.3) and shift-click restore in iTunes. Note that pwnagetool/custom IPSW only work with the shift-click restore process when the phone is already jailbroken.

It is against the rules of this forum to link to custom IPSW so you will have to use google.

Or you could use sn0wbreeze (windows unauthorized, unofficial pwnagetool clone) which will likely work but you will never find support for sn0wbreeze related problems on hackint0sh. So use this at your own peril.

Avoid blackra1n unless you have broken home or power buttons and can't get into DFU.
Blacksn0w is more stable now than it was - but ultrasn0w has had a *lot* less problem reports so I recommend you keep your baseband and go with ultrasn0w.

Question asked and answered many times before. If you have further questions search and post in one of the many existing threads related to pwnagetool or ultrasn0w. Closing thread.
