Red face Probable Brick - Utmost embarrassing

I asked my question on IRC, but no one was able to give a decisive answer
so let me try it here. ( ... )

What i did is the following.

    - Received a broken iPhone 3G
    - Orderd Parts. ( Broken glass/trouchscreen. )
    - Was not able to wait for the parts, so started doing stupid things;

Called my friend, she told me that the iphone was running the "latest firmware" ( 3.1.2 at that time. )

Due to the display being broken, i was not able to check this.

    - Installed RedSn0w
    - Chose the 3.1.2 IPSW

    Result:

The iphone keeps rebooting in verbose mode.

    Conclusion:

    - Iphone probably ran older firmware.

    What i want to know:

Can i fix this, and / or do i have to cancel my order for a new screen ?

Try restoring the phone to 3.13 then running RedSn0w with 3.12 ipsw.
He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

    For your iphone 3G.
If it was running 3.1.2 then:

    - restore with stock firmware 3.1.2 (do not use 3.1.3)
    - use redsn0w 0.9.2/0.9.3 to jailbreak (select only cydia)
    - if you need unlock then install blacksn0w.

Do not restore to 3.1.3 because it will update your baseband/modem hence no unlock.

I would seriously check the baseband/modem version of the phone first before doing anything. There are other ways of doing this depending on the modem version.
