Hi there - I'm jailbroken on my 3G with iOS4.1 using this version of Redsn0w and I've found that the AppStore crashes whenever I attempt to install a new app; is there a fix for this or would I be better off restoring and using an alternative jailbreak solution for the time-being?
Best, Colin.
Your problem is likely more related to "deitrus" that remained when you upgraded from an older iOS version (or restored from iTunes backup). Not seen any other reports of this specific problem with redsn0w.
Standard solution - restore, set up iPhone as new, jailbreak and test - if problem no longer occurs, then manually restore (via SSH) the individual files you require from the itunes backup you made sure that you saved before restoring.
Otherwise report back - it might be a real redsn0w bug.
Thanks for the response.
As a matter of course I always restore the phone to the newer firmware (baseband is not an issue as my phone is factory unlocked) and then setup as a new phone; however I'm suspecting that it was something installed after the jailbreak which broke the AppStore - on this score I'm suspecting SBSettings as I'm sure I've had issues with this before on an earlier firmware.
Anyways, as I'm currently at work I've downloaded the current version of iTunes which appears to be slightly newer than the one on my PC at home; I've restored back to a fresh copy of 4.1, and neither greenpois0n, limera1n or redsn0w are able to see the phone once it's in DFU mode... Clever Apple perhaps? I'll try to downgrade to a prior version and try again. I'll post if I find anything useful.
Best, Colin
It's mobilesubstrate that seems to be causing the issue, no problem - I just won't install it or anything that needs it lol
Previous version of iTunes (10.0.0) fixed the issue of not being able to jailbreak, could be a one-off that I was unable to jailbreak on the latest iTunes but still worthy of note.
Thanks!
If it causes too much of a hassle, you can restore and then use either greenp0ison or PwnageTool to jailbreak -- they use different patches for the jailbreak than redsn0w does and users have had better luck with mobilesubstrate after using one of those jailbreak utilities vs redsn0w.
