redsn0w crashes just as jailbreak starts

i've run it twice and every time the redsn0w app crashes (windows error box pops up telling me this app needs to close) but the downloading jailbreak data screen stays on my iphone 3G screen for about 15 minutes. when i turn the phone back on nothing appears different at all, no new app, no settings to play with...could this be because redsn0w is crashing at some point, and if so, can anyone help me prevent this crashing? i am running a fully updated machine with XP-Pro, my iPhone 3G is also fully updated

For the 1st Gen iPhone, not installing Icy worked for me. Thank you so much for the post GameAngel!

It did the same thing on my first try, and I wasn't installing ICY. I had to run it in XP SP2 Compatibility Mode (using Vista) to get it to work right.

Thanks for the tip about XP SP2 Compatibility mode. This worked for me on Vista 32-bit.

I have encountered this before, but I just restart my computer (windows vista) and then run the redsn0w again (it never crashes anymore) to jailbreak my iPhone.

If redsn0w crashes with no error, try changed the Application Control in your firewall/virus protection. It could be blocking redsn0w from connecting to the internet. This happened to me, but when I turned off the Application Control for the program on my computer (Shaw Secure) it worked fine.
