iphone 3GS, cannot unlock
I live in Greece and my son sent me an iPhone 3GS (s/n 81944xx which I gather is significant). It was from Orange. I took it to my local Vodafone shop who unlocked it, warning me not to allow it to update. 2 days later it locked again (possibly because I left it connected to my computer, possibly updating automatically). Vodafone had another go with no success. I cannot discover which version of firmware is currently on it. I tried Blackra1n (as the Vodafone man did originally), no success. With more research I have tried Redsn0w, hoping to then use Ultrasn0w. I used this tutorial Tutorial: Jailbreak iPhone 3GS Using RedSn0w but it doesn't get past the "waiting for reboot"
I apologise for the long explanation, this is very new for me and would dearly love to be able to use my iPhone. I am computer-literate but much of the language used on this forum is beyond me.
Additional information: I have discovered via http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/welcome.snow that it is baseband 05.12.01
Jailbreakable? Only if SHSH is saved (researching now)
Unlockable? No (I don't understand what the difference is between jailbreakeable and unlockable)
Tethered? Maybe: Depends if Refurbished
