Please help with unlocking a 3GS
Hi guys
Okay, let me walk you through this, lol. I'm new to jailbreaking and this site and been trying to learn as much as I can over the last week, but still having problems.
So I got an iPhone 3GS 16GB 2nd-hand, and foolishly restored it using iTunes (was still a n00b at this point), so that updated it to 5.0.1.
So now I had a 3GS with 5.0.1, and baseband 6.15.00 (new bootrom).
I then used Redsnow to jailbreak it, pointing redsnow to the stock 5.0.1 firmware.
Then I used the new Corona package to untether it. So far all good.
I then installed Ultrasnow 1.25, but the unlock hasn't worked (still getting no service).
I then tried various tricks from the internet involving complicated shenanigans like switching airplane mode on and off and pulling the SIM in and out, still no service. I've tried doing it all over again, still no service.
I tried re-flashing the baseband with "install ipad baseband" from redsnow, still no service.
What do I do now??
Any help at all would be enormously appreciated, I've really tried researching a ton of solutions with no luck.

Should be a simple fix -- unlock on 5.0.1 requires the CommCenter patch, else you'll just get no service. You're correct that after flashing 5.0.1 you want to reflash the iPad baseband if you're having trouble. Search the forums for the CommCenter patch from 5.0.0 and replace your current one, reboot the phone. You should get service.

The Cydia package will be a bit more automated, since it can just patch the existing file -- but if you need service now, manually patching the CommCenter will work. That is the thread I was referring to, glad to see you found it. While that one only really includes the offset, if you dig a little more you'll find a thread from Wortel (I believe it was him who started it) that details how to actually patch the file, not just the offset and what to patch.
Worst case, in a day or two I expect the package to be in Cydia, so if it's not urgent, hang back for a minute and it will be a lot easier.
