Please help with jailbreak for iPhone 3G
Hi, new to the forum. I have an iphone 3G and would like to jailbreak. I would like to use 4.0.1 rather than 4.2.1 due to the slowness of 4.2.1. My iphone was jailbroken on 4.0.1 and I really like it because it was not slow at all. My niece messed up my iphone and now I need to get it jailbroken and my friend who jailbroke it has moved.
So, I need your guys help, please. The baseband on my iphone is 06.15.00. How can I get 4.0.1 ISPW and which redsn0w should I use.
By the way, I am on Windows XP
Any help would be appreciated.

I completely disagree with your statement that 4.0.1 is faster than 4.2.1 on the iPhone 3G
there were serious performance issues with iOS 4.0.x on the iPhone 3G
Did you mean iOS 4.1?
Regardless (because of the iPad baseband), you need to look at this thread for answers: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f204/196391.htm

http://www.hackint0sh.org/f204/196391.htm Before my friend moved, he jailbroke my iphone 3G on 4.2.1. It was soooooooooooo slow that it wasn't even funny. When he would touch an app, it literally took up to 1 minute or longer to open up.
No, I don't mean iOS 4.1. Right now I have 4.0.1.
Here's a question. I installed a theme called buuf2 in cydia and when my iphone 3G, it did something I have never seen. I went back into cydia (after installing the theme) and now when I click on "sections", there is nothing there like SBSettings, themes, addons.....NOTHING....except for "all packages.
I then clicked on "Manage" and when I went into packages, there is nothing there. My themes should have been in the package section....but there is nothing....like I have never installed anything. And this all happened when I installed the theme buuf2.
My question is should I reinstall cydia? Or is there something else I can do?

Yea, if im not mistaken since you are on baseband 6.15 there is no going back as of yet as far as the baseband goes.. However, I would recommend updating to 4.2.1, it sounds like something is probably wrong with your jailbreak maybe? Or it got messed up, mine did the same thing turned out my jailbreak wasn't working.. and when i tried to tether it using redsnow method i got stuck in recovery mode on 4.2.1 baseband 6.15.. after only 4 hrs of sleep and a day later i found a real good method! I used sn0wbreeze 2.2 for windows.. basically you can keep your baseband, select the original ispw file that was on your phone, like i said i recommend moving to 4.2.1 as I know this works.. if you do it right, it won't be slow! You can download the ios 4.0.1 or whichever one you have from various sites, just search!.. drag n drop into snowbreeze 2.2, select one of 3 options.. i picked the second one which is for noobs lol, and it does everything for you! You'll still have the same baseband cuz you updated it to the ipad baseband, but everything else will be find, and you will have a untethered jailbreak with working cydia and everything! Then use cydia/ultrasn0w method to unlock and there you go!
sn0wbreeze 2.2 website

Thanks for the reply elliwigy. I think I read that this site doesn't support sn0wbreeze, therefore, I would really like to stick with redsn0w. Just can't remember what version of redsn0w I should use along with the 4.2.1. What is better....4.2.1 or 4.1????
