Default Need help to upgrade from 3.0.1 to 4.2

Hey guys, I desperately need help to upgrade, jailbreak and unlock my 3gs to ios 4.2. I am pretty new to iphone. I got mine from a frnd just a week back and noticed that the phone runs on iOS 3.0.1.

The phone was jailbreaked using Redsn0w for 3.0.1, unlocked using Blacksn0w. The bootrom was not updated during the upgrade. The baseband version is 04.26.08.

My frnd says that he has the shsh file saved in cydia. But, I am not able to view the stored file. I will also need help in storing the furrent shsh file in my desktop(if possible)

    Thanks a lot in advance

You have a lot of incorrect information.

The bootrom cannot ever be updated
Blacksn0w doesn't unlock that baseband or work on iOS 3.0.1

Tiny umbrella The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella can check what SHSH blobs are saved for this device. It also tells you what OS and baseband your device has (I'm not sure if you have actually got this information correct if you claim the iPhone is unlocked with blacksn0w) I suggest you download that and run it as a starting point.

What is very important is determining what SHSH you have saved and whether you have old or new bootrom.

if you have new bootrom, then we do not recommend you use iOS 4.2.1 (yet) and that you instead go to iOS 4.1

Also, very important - you need to have access to a mac or hackint0sh running OS X (10.5 or 10.6) to perform the update without upgrading your baseband.
