Hi everyone,

I used redsn0w 0.8 under Linux to jailbreak/unlock my iphone 2G with firmware 3.0.

The phone works nicely but iTunes still show the message:

The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
Only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported Carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card.

What I done wrong?

I use iTunes version 9.0.2.25

Seems like redsn0w did not hacktivate the phone properly. Did you jailbreak with the SIM card you now are using inserted?

I used redsn0w with the working SIM on Linux. I tried to run it on Windows too but unsuccessfully.

The iPhone was unlocked on the process. I can call and send sms through it.

It`s just iTunes that still isn`t working...

Any sugestion?

The unlock and activation are quite separate things on the iPhone. Your unlock is permanent now (the 2G is the only model that has permanent software unlock)

What carrier is the SIM card you are currently using? Is this now a legitimate carrier for iPhones?

My carrier is from a telecom company here in Brazil called Oi. The company sells unlocked iPhones. How can I activate the phone? Is there any software to do that?

The best way to get hacktivation enabled is to restore with a custom ipsw created with pwnagetool. If you don't have a mac you need to download a pre-made ipsw, just google for them.

Once downloaded, simply shift-click (option-click on mac) restore in iTunes. This will remove all content on your iPhone so be sure to have your contacts and other data synced to your computer first.

The custom ipsw must have activation on (and it does not need to include unlock, but does not hurt if it does)

Redsn0w tries to autodetect if your iPhone needs hacktivation based on the SIM card, however it seems like it has failed to autodetect in your case.

I can`t do restores...

When I connect iPhone, it shows the message that I said in the first post. If I connect without SIM card it shows a message to "insert a SIM".

If I click (double click) in the ipsw, it opens iTunes but nothing happens. I download iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw, the same that I use with redsn0w.

Do you know anyway to bypass this restrictions and do a restore?

Put your iPhone in recovery mode and then you should be able to restore

It worked!!!! I made the restore using the file (by using shift while clicking in the restore button).

Then I made the unlock/jailbreak and worked!!!
