Angry Iphone Won't Exit DFU Mode No Matter What

OK firstoff I am real sorry if this is in the wrong section but I aint had any sleep in two days because of this problem.
Basically my Iphone 3GS was jailbroken when I got it and was on the 4.1 firmware. The phone had a few niggles like the icons for apps I had downloaded stayed white and didn't have a pic so I decided to update to the 4.3.3 firmware and then jailbreak again.

Now here' my major problem. I updated fine but the phone stayed in DFU mode and no matter what I try it plain refuses to leave.
I have tried installing different firmwares through Itunes and I have tried various apps and the only way I can make the damn phone boot is by starting Redsnow and clicking tethered mode only.

So now I have installed Cydia again and the phone works fine but the minute I turn it off it just stays on the black screen and won't boot.

I have been at this for two days solid and I'm truly at my wits end because I worked my butt off to get this phone and I just don't know what else to try so if you have any ideas please let me know.

Again if this is in the wrong section I'm really sorry but my brain is truly fried right now.

This is because you didn't restore with saved SHSH 4.3.3 for your phone. You can't fix this unless you had the foresight to save your SHSH for 4.3.3 before Apple stopped signing that iOS version

The guy I bought it off had messed about with it so that was why I wanted to start from scratch.
It was originally on 4.1 so could I not downgrade it back to that? Anything to get it working again ya know?
    Thanks mate.

EDIT - It appears I do have a 4.1 shsh file saved with Tiny Unbrella but I cannot make sense of what to do with it. I'm not completely thick but the guides are not very clear. I understand how you update\downgrade with Itunes but I don't know wher ethe shsh files comes in and gets used.
    Any help would be great.

Open TinyUmbrella, go to advanced tab - make sure that "set hosts to cydia on exit" is unchecked and "request SHSH from Cydia" is set. Click "apply"
As you are stuck in DFU mode, you need to manually obtain your ECID then create a manual entry in TinyUmbrella for your device.
Highlight the entry for your device, click save SHSH and watch the log file to see which SHSH blobs it could retrieve.
If you can confirm that you have a 4.1 SHSH blob saved then
    Click Start TSS server

Start iTunes, shift-click on the restore button (option/alt click if you are on a mac)
Browse to a 4.1 IPSW for your device - you can download the correct IPSW from the links in this thread http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm
Let the restore proceed, the device should NOT be in DFU mode after the restore finishes.

You may get a 1015 error, if so use the "fix recovery" button in TinyUmbrella to exit.

Close TinyUmbrella and enjoy your working iPhone.

Ok I don't really know the best way to say this mate so here goes:

    YOU ARE THE FKING MAN!!!!

I have been at this for almost three days now and if you hadn't replied with this I was about to take the phone to a shop to be fixed which would have cost me money that I just don't have right now.

I just have one more little question to ask because I do not wanna go through this again (my heart can't take it).
So now I am on 4.1 and I need to jailbreak but jailbreakme.com only takes higher than 4.1 so what is the best way for me to jailbreak now? And once it is done what can I do to make backups and save shsh files etc?

Thanks again mate, if you weren't just on a screen I'd kiss you. In fact I might anyway.

EDIT - Some companies that I contacted said they could fix the Iphone 100% for me by doing a "hard reset" but isn't a hard reset just resetting by pressing the buttons? Also if it wasn't for the complete fluke that I had the 4.1 shsh file would this phone ever have worked again?

This is a difficult question to answer.

Previously I would have said that setting "request SHSH from Cydia" and clicking Save SHSH would have been enough - but Apple has recently tried to block Cydia from pro-actively saving SHSH blobs for people who have registered their device with Cydia.

    So.. my advice is:

    1. Be proactive yourself and every time you read about a new iOS version - check to see if TinyUmbrella has been updated to support it. Then try and save a SHSH blob via TinyUmbrella for the new iOS version.
    2. Remember that TinyUmbrella only saves these SHSH blobs on your local computer, so try and back them up online somewhere as well (they are useless to anyone else and there is no security risk in saving them to an online backup site like dropbox)
    3. Add the cydia source Cydia.pushfix.info and install RecoveryGuard. This will stop the "newer iOS version, do you want to update??" messages that iTunes nags you with. It's far too easy to accidentally click OK and start to update to a version you can't jailbreak.

Regarding how to re-jailbreak, I recommend that you use redsn0w. The 0.9.6 series is considered the stable branch. I think that the latest release in that series 0.9.6rc19 can still jailbreak 4.1 (you need to supply redsn0w with a 4.1 IPSW)

If that doesn't work, I have uploaded Redsn0w windows rc8 (as this isn't available on the devteam's download site any more). This older version will jailbreak iOS 4.1 or 4.2.1 (depending on which IPSW you supply to redsn0w)

Guides on jailbreaking with redsn0w are available on iClarified.

I can probably find and upload mac versions if required.

Yes a hard reset is just what you described.
I think what these companies would have done is to restore phone to 4.3.5 (which is not what you want)

Yes, your 4.1 SHSH was vital, this is why I keep on reminding people to save their SHSH (even if they can only save a SHSH for a version that is currently not so useful - because it might become useful in the future if someone develops an untethered jailbreak for that iOS version)

Well I have rejailbroken with Redsnow like you said and all is well.
Without your advice I would have been so screwed it's untrue so thanks again.
I'll be keeping ahead with the latest info on Iphones now just like I do with Xbox and PS3 so I won't be making silly mistakes again, that's for sure.
I don't have a great deal of cash but you really saved my ass so when I get payed I'll be donating a few pounds to you guys.
Thanks again and you can close this thread now if need be mate.
