Default Iphone dead strip stucked "slide to unlock"

    Hi,

I've just followed some of your advices and i would like to make you a question as my iphone is not working properly.

My iphone 2g FW 3.0 with redsn0w was working perfectly since it dropped down last week. Since that, the bottom part of the touchscreen is unresponsive. Is it software or hardware?

    do you have any solution?

    thnaks in advance!

i feel this 'might' be hardware problem; try calling phone and set autlock to
    never.

Give a try and reload sofware.

You can restore again (since iTunes after activation doesn't lock your phone) and then jailbrake and go to Cydia and install an app "Tap to unlock".
This app gives you the chance of tapping anywhere in the screen to unlock the phone, instead of "slide to unlock"

My gut says hardware. Especially since you started experiencing the issues after you dropped the phone.

The fall may have just loosened the one of the cables that support the display assy. Take it to the local Apple Store, the Genius can perform a cable reseat.

I have a similar problem and my phone didnt drop! When u call phone u still need to slide to answer ... which doesnt work! Is there any other way u know that I can set the autounlock off without having to get passed 'slide to unlock'? I am in Africa and there is no apple store out here!

    Thanks for helping out!

Well mate, thats what we call a dead/broken digitizer. I have the same problem. There's no software solution. You can't slide to unlock, slide to answer etc etc.Basically you can't use it anymore.

You can get a new digitizer from ebay and replace it. That would be your best move...
    Good luck.
    Previously HW Unlocked 8Gb iPhone.
    Now Unlocked 3.0
    Calls In/Out: YES
    SMS In/Out: YES
    Edge : YES
    YouTube :??

    Lightbulb Fixed!

I had the same problem where the digitizer was completely unresponsive and a hard reset would not fix it. I finally fixed it by opening up the iPhone and reseating the digitizer's connection to the mainboard. To do this, there are a ton of videos on YouTube. Basically, you unscrew the two screws on the bottom, then use a suction cup to pull the screen up. Place the suction cup near the bottom, just above the home button. Gently (stress gently) pull up on the cup until the bottom of the screen's glass pops out. You can then lift up the screen. Near the top you will see three ribbon cables (nicely labeled 1, 2 and 3). Lift #1 and #2 and then press them back down again. You should be able to feel them click into place. Press the screen back down until it is flush and then replace the screws.

That fixed it for me. Be very careful not to pull up to hard on the glass when you open it. You don't want to rip any of those ribbon cables.
