Question iPhone 3G 4.1 Battery Drain And General Slowness

    Hi all

I recently sold my 2G and got a 3G which has v4.1(8b117) software and 05.14.02 firmware.

I did not need to unlock this phone as my carrier (O2 UK) is an official iPhone carrier so my SIMM worked OK but I wanted to jailbreak it to install some Cydia apps as I had done on my 2G.

So I used the 4.1(3G) iPhone 1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw and RedSn0w and the jail-breaking was successful but since then the phone seems very slow in all operations and I have to re-charge the battery nearly every day.

I have turned OFF the following unless needed:
    WiFi
    3G
    Bluetooth
    SSH
    Multitasking

I know there is an issue with v4.1 and battery drain with unlocked phones but my phone is NOT carrier unlocked only jail-broken.

How can I address the slowness and battery drain problem.

    The Count

Did you activate your phone with your carrier *before* you jailbroke with redsn0w?

3G uses more battery than the 2G iPhone.

iphone 3g running firmware 4.x is slow IMHO.
when you jailbreak, did you select enable multitasking and wallpaper ?
I generally turn these off and just enable battery percentage.
If you wish, you can run redns0w again and deselect those (you don't have to select cydia again if it's on the phone already)

Totally solved my battery drain problem!!

After much Googling I found by turning OFF Push notifications and hard re-setting the phone (to kill known wifi problem) my battery now lasts almost a week between charges. All I do is hard re-set the phone after using wifi (not 3G) the phone battery life is great. I can put up with this small inconvenience until a fix for the battery drain problems on Fw4.1 is found.

I understand that phones general slowness is a trait of Fw4.1 unless anyone knows better.

Strange that a legitimately activated phone had problems with push notifications (that is usually a sign you have a non unique certificate)

I'm still pretty sure it is possible to fix this in a way that allows you to use push notifications also.
