Default Iphone 3g on 3.1.3 locked to at&t im in uk trying to unlock

I have a iphone 3g it was jailbroken on 3.1.2 and the internet stopped working so i did a restore on it and updated it to 3.1.3 completely forgetting that it would wipe the jailbreak.

When I turn the phone on now it says i have to connect to itunes.

When I connect it to itunes it says I need to register the phone but there is an invalid sim card. (This is due to the phone being locked to AT&T and im in the UK using an orange simcard)

When I use 'spirit' it just says please insert iphone

When I use sn0wbreeze 1.5.2 to create the new IPSW I shift and click on restore in itunes and open up the IPSW and it starts the restore and then I get an error message with error code (1600).

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Try: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f230/116323-2.htm#post507026

I have (partly) tested this procedure - if it does not work I have another idea.

Also, you won't get any support for sn0wbreeze on this forum. The author has proven time and time again that he can't be trusted so the tools from ih8sn0w are neither supported or endorsed here.

All IPSW are actually zip format files. However you should NOT unzip them

Some web browsers try to be too smart and detect the file is a zip file and try to unzip it. On windows some archiving programs install shell extensions that also try to be too smart.

Solution: try to download with a different browser or look for the option in the browser to disable this feature. In Safari it is "Open safe files after downloading" that needs to be disabled.

You need a single file 250-350MB depending on OS version with a suffix of IPSW

if you haven't fixed the issue with zip file yet.....

I went through this confusion with the zip and ipsw. Simple answer. in a folder view of anything click tools at top (press alt if you don't see tools and the menu will pop up) go to tools --> folder options --> view --> check to view file extentions. Change the ending of zip file to ipsw. You can now use the ipsw file. don't forget to change the option back to hide extentions so you don't screw anything up accidentally.
