It's a long story, but I'm CURRENTLY (after everything listed below happened) on 3.1.3 on my 3g iphone, and i unfortunately applied the ipad bb 06.15.

I followed these instructions: How to Prepare your iPhone 4.2.1 for Unlock using RedSn0w and they worked fine. I believe I was running 4.0.1 with the ipad bb 06.15 at that point. So I successfully completed the above walkthrough with 4.0.1 on my iphone.

I then, stupidly tried to update to 4.2.1 using itunes. I didn't know better at the time.

I was then stuck in recovery mode and itunes wouldnt restore it because of error 1015, obviously. This was easily fixed by using tinyumbrella and I simply kicked it out of recovery mode and it instantly worked. Apparently it sent me back to 3.1.3, leaving my baseband unchanged and it remains this way, as I stated in the first paragraph.

My phone was successfully running this, until I ran the latest redsn0w and pointed it at 4.1.2 ipsw and tried to jailbreak it again. It stopped at the Apple logo after redsn0w had done it magic and I can't get it to boot up. It goes to recovery mode, but when I try to boot it gets stuck on the logo.**

**It's not stopping at the logo anymore, it goes back to recovery mode and gets stuck there. Tinyumbrella won't kick it out this time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I haven't tried much yet, so even a list of things that won't work would be helpful. Thank you all so much in advance.

I won't go into how stupid (and unecessary) it was to update your baseband to 6.15 if you were previously on the baseband that ships with 3.1.3 - nor will I say how it is really not advisable to just trust any guide you find on the net, the only place you can really trust is information officially posted by the iPhone dev team (or chronic dev team or geohot). Other than that, advice from senior members or moderators here or at modmyi can usually be trusted. Plus of course the twitter streams of the various dev team members.

There are so many sites that repeat the information published by the iPhone dev team, but they fail to update their posts when the iPhone dev team issue extra updates to address specific issues encountered (the ultra-recycle post on the iPhone dev team's blog has had 6 updates since it was originally posted for example).

You have a classic case of a mixture of 4.2.1 NOR and 3.1.3 OS, this simply won't work.

You *might* be able to get out of this by using redsn0w 0.9.2 and a 3.1.2 IPSW to re-jailbreak. That might be enough to re-flash your NOR and kernel to pwned 3.1.3 state.

Another (complicated) option might be to try a NOR only 3.1.3 IPSW, do some searches for this - you need to manually make this, we can't distribute a pre-made version for you.

If that doesn't work, then you will need to restore again. I recommend you stay away from 4.2.1 and put your 3G into DFU mode http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/53930.htm and restore to 3.1.3 http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm then jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.2 redsn0w 0.9.2 [iPhone Dev Team] and the 3.1.2 IPSW (also downloaded from the all firmware link above)

You will *always* get the 1015 error now when restoring, this is impossible to permanently fix and is a big disadvantage of the technique that the iPhone Dev Team have suggested. It is one of the reasons why they say it is a "last ditch" technique for people who had already updated to 4.1 or 4.2.x and had updated their baseband to a version that couldn't be unlocked by ultrasn0w.

If you have access to a mac (and really want to run iOS 4.x), then you can also try custom IPSW with pwnagetool 4.1.2 (iOS 4.1)

I'm now in the process of using redsn0w .9.3 since .9.2 isn't hosted anywhere anymore. It wasn't enough to flash the NOR. Resorting to the second option now.

I know I will personally heed your words with renewed vigor, lol. This is what happens when newbs dabble in things they don't understand.

However I'd like to understand and contribute. So little is known about the new 06.15 unlock (at least the consequences) I'd love to write a "06.15 Survival Guide" but I fear it would quite inadequate coming from me.

So it's booting up now! Thanks a lot!

However I'm having SIM card issues now! it shows one tiny bar, but no carrier logo. It does connect to wifi.

I'd like to know where I stand now in terms of updating and future jailbreaking. Am I limited to custom ipsw's only now? I'm on a windows unfortunately.

I shift+click restored to 3.1.3 and then after error 1015 I ran redsn0w 0.9.3 jailbreak with 3.1.2 ipsw to no avail.

Would you discourage trying to activate through sn0wbreeze? Would that be a valid solution or would I be making it worse?

sn0wbreeze finished. my iphone works and is jail broken with cydia on it, but the carrier logo is still missing and I have one bar. Unable to send texts or make phone calls still. I'm going to see if I can make another ispw that only activates my iphone. Activating sounds good at this point lol.

Looking into using blackra1n to make sure it's unlocked.

Then using sn0wbreeze to update to 3.1.3. Will update.

Blackra1n is not an unlock it is a jailbreak plus hacktivation, blacksn0w is an unlock and it doesn't work with bb06.15

I'm not sure how far back you can go and expect bb 6.15 to work, the whole technique is still too new.

I didn't realise the download links to 0.9.2 were broken on the official site. I will ask if someone can fix this.

Don't use 0.9.3 - use either 0.9.2 or 0.9.4 (0.9.4 is linked on most iClarified redsn0w jailbreak guides)

I just found .9.2 on my computer, i guess I must have downloaded it a long time ago. So that worked out.

Using .9.2 now.

Instead of using sn0wbreeze 1.5 im using 1.2 to see if I can get anywhere by creating a custom 3.1.2 ipsw.

Still No Dice.

The problem started when I used redsn0w .9.3 with 3.1.2.

I was running 3.1.3 with bb 06.15 and had service until I ran the latest redsnow with 4.1.2. So that must be what ruined it. Does that help identify my problem?
