iPhone 2G unlocked and jailbroken on 2.x or 3.x to OS 3.1.2

when you say "restore" do u mean just click update on itunes when it comes up asking to update your iphone to 3.1.2?

I have a unlocked 2G iPhone on 2.2.1 and also want to get it to 3.1.2 and have it unlocked and jailbroken still as well, so is this right:

1) Click UPDATE on itunes to update iPhone to 3.1.2 as normal
2) use Blackra1n
3) add this on Cydia: cydia.pushfix.info

and voila, you have a jailbroken unlocked fully functional iPhone 2G on 3.1.2?

is what im saying correct or have i missed anything out?

where do i get the costum firmware for 3.1.2 for my iphone 2g to restore with?

i understand that you dont just click update on itunes, you have to use the costum firmwares and then use blackra1n.

someone please get back to me asap becuase i need to do this right now, and need clear indication becuase i dont want any problems arising.

There is a simpler solution now. Especially for 2G owners. Use redsn0w 0.9

Get it from here.

Just follow this guide and wherever it mentions an IPSW use the 3.1.2 one

The 3.1.2 IPSW for a 2G iPhone can be downloaded here http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....1_Restore.ipsw

The recommended process is to do a restore and set the iPhone up as new afterwards. This will remove all the current data and settings from the iPhone.

To retain your contacts, music, pictures etc, you should sync your iPhone with iTunes (make sure you sync everything) and take a copy of the backup that iTunes makes.

It is technically possible to do an "upgrade" instead of "restore" but you will definitely lose some disk space (due to files that get orphaned by the upgrade) and probably will experience poor battery life and general instability. This is why it is recommended to restore.

Sorry for making this thread, but the other one was getting confusing as there was two conflicting methods.

How exactly can an iPhone 2G on 2.2.1 which is already jailbroken and unlocked, be upgraded to 3.1.2 and still be unlocked?

Please include all details e.g. do you use custom 3.1.2 ipsw or not?
Also include links to where to do download all files mentioned.

The same procedure works for any 2G iPhone from OS 1.1.2 and higher. You are getting stressed over nothing.

- Get redsnow 0.9 Beta3 that Olethros pointed out to you.
- get the firmware 3.1.2 for iphone 2G from apple. Link in Olethro's post
- sync your iphone and backup your stuff
- restore the iphone with firmware 3.1.2 you downloaded. This step will wipe everything clean on your iphone
- run redsn0w 0.9 beta3 (check the guide on iclarified)

** When you run redsn0w 0.9 beta 3, you only need to let it activate and install cydia. (no need to unlock again - trust me, you don't need to unlock again).
