Default Help! iphone 2g 3.0, 04.05.04_g, how do i unlock?

I know there is most likely a thread that explains this but I can not find it. My husband got the new 3gs yesterday and gave me his original 2g but I can not figure out how to unlock it and have been trying since last night. Could someone please help!

You just need to run redsn0w. Check the following link for information:

I upgraded (to OS 3.0), unlocked and jailbroke my 1.1.3 2G iPhone using the steps found here iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.0 Using RedSn0w (Windows). You will have no problems. Enjoy!!!

Known problem, unplug and replug the iPhone to usb this pushes the jailbreak process past the stage where it gets stuck.

because you have tried a few times already, this might not work for you anymore so you may need to restore to 3.0 or 3.0.1 and try again with a fresh install.

Redsn0w refused to unlock for me or even to work at all with 2G 3.0 on baseband 04.05.04_g.
So i updated to 3.1.2 jailbroke with blackra1n and tried to manually run bootNeuter which failed and would always give me errors when it tries to flash.

So I restored again to 3.1.2, jailbroke with blackra1n (again), then restored to a custom activated 3.1.2 which ran bootNeuter and it works 100%

Glad to hear it worked in the end.. Blackra1n really should have automated a lot more post jailbreak steps as it is easy for people to misunderstand and make mistakes.

This is yet another reason why I am always recommending pwnagetool, it's much more polished than blackra1n.

well I would of used pwnagetool except it is for Mac only, I do not understand why did the Dev-Team choose to release it on Mac only?

The main reason I think is that it was much easier to initially develop the tool for a mac. Apple provides APIs for mounting and modifying disk images for example. This code needs to be written and kept updated on other platforms.

The dev team have committed to making and releasing a windows version of pwnagetool. No time schedule though.

For those who are more technically minded the core of pwnagetool has been available as an open source cross platform project for quite some time now.
