This post brought up a question for me about Unlocking my iPhone. It was purchased off a good friend on mine, his girlfriend anyways. Anyways, he told me that she has had it for at least two years 16GB 3G running 3.1.3 and Baseband 5.12.01 however it was probably less before the 3.1.3 update. From what I understand if your iPhone was shipped during a certain time with Bootloader 5.8 or below that the baseband can be downgraded, then the firmware downloaded, and then Jailbroken or Unlocked like a 3.1.2 iPhone? If this is correct, please let me know and if possible provide some how-to links as I am extremely new to this and would LOVE to get my iPhone working with my T-Mobile US account and not get robbed by AT&T. I think I only need Fuzzyband from Cydia, correct? And if I'm 5.8 I can find a tutorial to downgrade my Bootloader, then Baseband, and just restore 3.1.2 and follow a jailbreak/unlock tutorial? Sorry for all my questions, and lengthy post.

    Thanks Again Hackerz,
    C. Negatory

There is no way to downgrade your baseband bootloader.

Baseband bootloader 05.08 shipped on the first batch of 3G iPhones made by Apple sold from mid 2008 to maybe September 2008. Everything made and sold since then Has a newer baseband bootloader that can't be tricked into downgrading baseband like 05.08 can.

So a new 3G purchased recently will have zero chance of baseband downgrade - which is required to software unlock the phone with either blacksn0w or ultrasn0w.

Okay, after I get Cydia installed I'm going to get fuzzyband and check that boot loader. My fingers are crossed that it's 5.8 because then I could get T-Mobile working

    Peace Out,

You can jailbreak with redsn0w iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS on OS 3.1.2 Using RedSn0w (Windows) the same procedure for OS 3.1.2 and OS 3.1.3 - you can skip the step 2 (restore step)

No... if there was news. It would be obvious in a quick search. Please take the time to look around before asking the same question that has been asked 1000 times already.
