Default how to jailbreak iphone 3G 3.1.3 5.12.01

sorry somebody just posted a very similar thread but i just needed some confirmation before i jailbreak for the first time

I've had this iPhone for several months now, i dont wish to unlock it, i use AT&T

im running an iPhone 3G, 3.1.3 and 05.12.01

until today i was under the impression i could just jailbreak using redsn0w 0.9.2 using the 3.1.2 firmware in the process.

However, this morning someone informed me that i would have to downgrade first due to the 05.12.01 before i even use redsn0w.
i just need someone to confirm this and tell me how i should downgrade(like via itunes?) so i can use redsn0w

    thanks if you can help

EDIT: actually, what about 0.9.4 redsn0w?

If you don't care about unlock, you can jailbreak 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.2

    Regarding versions of redsn0w.
Redsn0w 0.9.2 - stable release for all models (except some 2nd gen iPod touches)
Redsn0w 0.9.3 - experimental release for 2G, 3G and 3Gs iPhones with tethering support (so you can use data tethering even when your carrier does not offer it)
Redsn0w 0.9.4 - beta release with support for 2nd gen iPod touches that can't be jailbroken with 0.9.2. Reports are that it also works for iPhones - but it was never officially tested or designed to work on iPhones.

So... all the guides and uninformed people who assume that highest version number is better... Are taking a risk. The last stable version for 95% of devices is 0.9.2

Reports are that 0.9.4 works for many people. However we still get the occasional report that it does not work. This is why we recommend 0.9.2.
