Default Help: Jailbreaking 3.1.2 IPSW with 06.15.00 Baseband

    My iPhone's Details
    Current Firmware: iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw
    Current Modem Firmware (Baseband): 06.15.00

I'm stuck, I want to jailbreak my iPhone but Redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 does not recognise the IPSW. I'd prefer it if I could use Redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 because of the new features (tickboxes) including 'deactivate'. I've tried downloading Redsn0w 0.9.2 but the program crashes into debug mode. Please can someone advise me on what I need to do. Bear in mind I'm using modem firmware 06.15.00.

On a sidenote - I want to unlock my iPhone to a different network. When I previously tried this I managed to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone using Redsn0w (on 4.2.1 - I dont want 4.2.1 this time, it makes my iPhone 3G very slow) and Ultrasn0w but then had 'no service' no matter if 'enable 3G' was on or off. Does anyone have a solution to enabling carrier signals to work correctly?

Thank you for your time and help!

    Ben

That's an iphone 3G. You can simply put the phone in DFU mode and restore with stock firmware 3.1.2
You will get an error at the end of the restore (1015) which you can simply use tinyumbrella to kick the phone out of recovery mode.
After that, you can proceed to jailbreak using redsn0w 0.9.4.
once jailbroken, you can use ultrasn0w to unlock

Thanks for that. I've done what you have said (apart from I used Redsn0w 0.9.2).

However, I'm still getting 'no service' even with 'enable 3G' switched on.

What do you think the problem could be? This is the third time I've unlocked it and each time it stays on 'no service' and waits for activation which never happens.

Update: ok I've managed to connect to my carrier ('three network', in the UK) but I can only get signal when I enable 3G. Without 3G enabled it just says 'no service'. When I connecting to Itunes it prompted me to download new carrier settings, which I did do. But if I go to 'Network>Cellular Data Network' there are no settings there. I'm guessing that's why I cant connect to my carrier without 3G enabled?

    Please help!

This is actually a business decision on Three's part, they don't own any pre-3G network, they have a roaming agreement with Orange to use Orange's network when there is no Three 3G coverage. So.. you need to keep 3G on, otherwise you are roaming and are reliant on Orange coverage in your area.

The carrier settings update can contain many different things. Most carriers lock down or hide the settings they bundle in their "carrier update" in the name of making things simpler for the user.

Just having the 3G on the proper baseband is not enough. The phone must be jailbroken and you must install ultrasn0w. Has that been completed?
