One more piece of info - if I plug the phone into the wall charger, the Apple logo will show up, after a minute, it dims away, then goes back to black. No button combos can get anything else while plugged into the wall, except it will re-cycle the Apple again if I push the power key.
I just want the thing to turn on!

Default same problem, but no solution

I have the same exact problem as selectveins, my boot screen gets stuck at Setting Dormancy interval to 5000 ms with mask 0x1700 after trying to clear all data on my jailbroken 3g on ios 4...

I tried everything n1ckn4m3 suggested but i cant get itunes to recognize my iphone so i can restore it. while its stuck, the only way i can get it to power off is to hold both sleep and home buttons for 10 sec. holding sleep button for a couple minutes didnt even work. so when i get it to power off it kicks back on after 15 sec or so, and im back to square one: stuck, and no itunes recognition.

so in the 15 sec window i have it off, i tried turning it on holding both sleep and home buttons, like n1ck suggested, but it still sends me back to square one.... sorry to bother you n1ckn4m3, but do u have any ideas? and selectveins, how exactly did u get out of your problem?

thanks guys! I'll wait for your response.

    NEVERMIND!!

wow i dunno why, but my problem is now gone, for some random reason, the @#$-teenth time i tried to reboot in restore mode worked!! i set up as a new phone, now everythings perfect! jailbroken 3g on ios 4 and its NOT slow anymore! sweet, still couldnt have done it without u n1ck!!

Most often this is because it is much more difficult to get into DFU mode on these devices now than it used to be. When plugged in you've only got about 1-2 seconds to let go of the power/home buttons when it turns off and then push them again, and if you don't hit them both at nearly the exact same time, you'll boot up in recovery mode. Even having done it many, many times, I still have to end up doing it several times before I get it right.

Glad to hear everything worked out!

What happens if you leave it plugged into a charger for 24 hours (to make sure it has a full charge), then unplug from the wall, plug into your computer, and try and get into DFU mode? It should be able to get there, but it will need to be charged and it will need to be plugged in or else DFU mode is inaccessible.

Are you seeing any connectivity when you connect to your PC over USB? Anything show up in your USB devices? Even if not the Apple Mobile Device driver, anything showing up would help indicate what is going on or where in the process that things are failing.

    Good luck!

Glad to hear it got everything going, with regard to your second question, nope, and I'd recommend you read the forum rules before posting about cracked apps again in the future. We don't support piracy here, don't condone it, and don't allow it to be discussed. Consider this your only warning. Many of the developers who write the apps for the App Store or Cydia are also contributing members of this forum -- so they see you asking how to steal their hard work. Plus, the apps are all pretty cheap.

    Hi!
I have a little bit problem width the os4 jailbreak.
I have iPhone 3G and jailbrokened 3.01 FW, and win xp op system, itunes 9.2.
Now, i have upgrade to os4 with itunes, shift+restore: iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw.
the update was correctly, then i go to redsn0w but....
the phone go no in dfu mode(its my mind), and should no reboot. The scree still off, and redsn0w wait to the iphone rebooting, and nothing happen.
in itunes, the recowery mode is ok, and I can restore the fw.
The phone come back after a manual reset, and the os4 work fine.
I have use other test:the pone send in dfu mode-> itunes come up-> recovery mode ->restore: iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw and then the redsnow, but itd same...no rebooting.
I have use other usb port, other pc, and redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3 but the problem is same.

What is the problem or the solution?
    Thanks iTrack!
