Default getting no service on 3gs bb 06.15.00

    Hey all
Friend got iphone 3gs 32g second hand but there has been a problem it cant find network singal. The iphone had 5.1 firware and baseband 06.15.00 jailbroken had ultrasnow installed but the phone didnt unlock or still couldnt get a singal.

So i downgrade the firware to 4.2.1 by
    frist downloading fw 4.2.1
ran tinyumbrella 5.01 Tss server( did this as i found it stoped any errors happing)
    put iphone in duf mood
open itunes, itunes went to restore holded shift button and clicked restore ( no problems)
Iphone restored and went to emergency mode ( so need activation)
    put iphone in duf mood
Ran greenpois0n firist ( did this to for hackactivation iphone and think makes untethered)
    put iphone in duf mood
ran Redsnow 0.9.9b 8 ( open as admin)
    enter to extra screen
    select IPSW fw 4.2.1
enter jailbreak put iphone in duf mood
Iphone restarts it is hackactivated and runing cydia
Run cydia eneter manage, sources , reppo66 and intstall ultrasnow
    reboot
    ultrasnow has unlocked phone
if you toggle with the airplane mode, turn on airplane mode with sim in then take sim out turn airplane off and instert sim the iphone reconigised the carrier
But cant find network keeps seraching
if you turn the 3g funition off it will go to No service

    Couple of things:

Though you've downgraded to 4.2.1 now, it's worth mention that 5.0.1 will not work with ultrasn0w unless you use a patched CommCenter -- several posts around the forum provide instructions on how to do this, take a look if you want to be running 5.0.1.

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is that the phone is IMEI blacklisted. Are you in the UK or EU? How did your friend come to obtain this device? The behavior exhibited really seems like a phone that is either not properly unlocked or has been IMEI blacklisted.

It really sounds like you're IMEI blocked. If you can see the carrier names but are stuck at either 1 bar and no real service, the device has most likely been IMEI blacklisted. As a last ditch effort, you can use the model number to attempt to determine the actual carrier that the device was locked to when it was built, and if you can find one of those SIM cards, you can prove definitively whether or not it's blacklisted -- as it should ALWAYS work with the carrier's SIM card, ultrasn0w or not.

Also, since it's on the 06.15.00 baseband, I can definitely tell you that if it IS unlocked, it's only unlocked with ultrasn0w -- it's not a factory unlocked device, in case you were curious.

Pop a search into google, I have good luck searching for "determine what carrier iphone is locked to model number".

Glad to hear it worked out, and thanks for coming back to let us know what the solution was -- hopefully if someone else has the same problem they'll find the thread and get it solved!
