Default DFU Mode - Can't seem to get it

    Hi All,

I've been trying to get into DFU mode over the course of the past few days and have tried a whole slew of methods, but just can't seem to get in. Any tips would be appreciated. The phone is a 3G, the screen shows the cable pointing to iTunes with a bubble telling me no Sim is installed (If I borrowed a sim would this make it easier?), and the only other screen I can get to is the Emergency call. I've gone through the first couple steps of the Redsn0w tutorial, but am stalled at DFU mode.

    Thanks,
    Hurricane09

    1. Confirm that your home and power buttons work
    2. Confirm that the iPhone can detect power via USB
    3. Can you shut down the iPhone? Hold down power until "slide to power off" appears.

    Hi Olethros,

I've verified the buttons and am able to shut down the iPhone. The phone looks like its charging in iTunes, but I'm going to try it on another computer just on the off-chance it has something to do with the USB on this one. At this point I'll try anything!

    Thanks.

Tried on another computer as well and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Any suggestions?

Try the DFU procedure in this link.

Do you have a USB charger (original that shipped with iPhone or iPod/iPad) - try the whole procedure with the phone connected to the USB charger.

If at the end of the procedure the screen is black (but you can see that the backlight is on) then you are in DFU mode.

Tell me at what point does it appear to not work for you?

I've tried this now, and still no luck. Could this be bricked and should I try to downgrade the OS?

One other thing - I've watched a lot of the videos on YouTube and I noticed that when they hold the power and home button at the same time, the apple logo doesn't come up. Whenever I attempt to do it, the apple logo appears after a couple seconds. Could this be because of bad contact on my home button?

Your problem might be contacts, it's more likely you have the timing wrong.

How many seconds until the apple log appears?

If you let go of hold the home/power again - after the apple logo appears and then hold them down, how many seconds long does it take until the screen goes blank again?

Thats the thing - it doesn't seem to go black. It just stays on the Apple logo until it gets to the cord/iTunes screen. I've been trying with a stopwatch and everything. I have a few different cable that I've tried, tried a couple different computers, including my mac, and continue to search for any ideas, but I'm coming up short. The Apple logo is appearing between 1-2 seconds.

Ok, finally success! I had to take the unit apart and give it a good cleaning. After that DFU mode came very easily - I believe the home button looked like it was working, but maybe wasn't making the best connection.

After that I was getting 'waiting for reboot' message in redsn0w, so I restored to the same firmware I was trying to use in redsn0w (thought I had done this but I've been trying to get DFU mode for days and have tried so much I figured it was worth a go). Anyway after that everything went pretty quick.
