Hey guys,
might be a stupid question, though used the search engine a lot
Can i use redsn0w to upgrade to 3.1.3 on my 3GS?
Got 3.1.2 installed and unfortunately its fucked up now. Don't have the 3.1.2 SHSH, but the 3.1.3 SHSH, thats why i ask.
Ultrasn0w should then do the unlock, right?
Cheerio,

No, redsn0w pwns running firmware, it does not create custom firmware. Secondarily, redsn0w does not pwn 3.1.3, in any case.
The best method would be to use redsn0w or blackra1n to pwn your existing 3.1.2 and install ultrasn0w. Since you don't have an SHSH on file and can't restore 3.1.2 onto the device again, if you absolutely must upgrade, do one of the following.
If you have an old bootrom 3GS, you can upgrade to 3.1.3, complete the Spirit jailbreak, then complete the LLB pwn by following the instructions here:
Mostly iPhone hacking: OLD BOOTROM + Spirit => 4.0 JB
Once that's complete, you'll have a fully pwned and jailbroken 3.1.3. The pwning is not ultimately required in order for ultrasn0w to work, but if you want to stay on the jailbreak train (e.g., if you want to be able to jailbreak 4.0), then you'll want to complete those instructions. Once you've done this, add the ultrasn0w repo and install ultrasn0w, then reboot. You should be jailbroken, pwned, and unlocked.
If you have a new bootrom 3GS, your best bet is to upgrade to 3.1.3 and use Spirit to jailbreak. You cannot complete the pwn process on your LLB, nor can you jailbreak 4.0 iOS on your device, but you will be able to jailbreak and unlock 3.1.3.
