    Default After Redsn0w 0.9.2 on 3gs - no change - no jailbreak?

    Hello to all you experts.

After hours spent trying to research and not getting a conclusion, I could really use your expertise.

My system: OS X (10.6.2), iPhone 3gs with 3.1.2 (Modem Firmware: 05.11.07 and the older bootrom - iBoot-359.3)

Wanting to jailbreak, I ran redsn0w 0.9.2, pointed to the official ipsw for my device, and it did it's thing to the end until it rebooted my iphone 3gs. (It all seemed successful and it said the rest of the setup would take place on the iphone, so I clicked "Finish" -- though there was no more setup to do on my 3gs, it just booted as normal.)

So I look on my 3gs and I see no noticeable change. I was looking for Cydia (which I checked the box to install on redsn0w) but I don't see it anywhere. I can't see any change to my device.

The bootup screen is the same silver apple as before, and I really don't know if it jailbroke my device or not, since it all looks the same.

This is my first experience trying to jailbreak, so, perhaps I'm overlooking something, or did redsn0w in fact have zero effect?

Perhaps I need to try blackra1n, although I'd like to use redsn0w as a first option. I'm just concerned now whether I can just proceed to try blackra1n when my 3gs supposedly was just modified by redsn0w, or was it really? I'd really have liked to use pwnagetool 3.1.4, but itunes (9.0.3) just did not let me restore the custom ipsw without the 1604 error (same error when I tried on a clean windows xp machine as well)..

    Thanks for your help!

    Default Solved

Sorry, answering my own question here -- well, at least solved what I was trying to do. Will post here in case it helps someone else.

I ended up Jailbreaking with the pwnagetool 3.1.4. I tried to do this earlier and was getting some errors when itunes tried to restore my custom ipsw file (thus the reason I tried redsn0w).

I ended up doing a couple things to get it working this time:

    1) I ran pwnagetool in expert mode (with all the default settings) making sure *itunes helper* was deactivated through the activity monitor FIRST, before running pwnagetool. Itunes AND the ituneshelper (visible via activity monitor) must be off BEFORE running pwnagetool.

    2) BEFORE connecting my 3gs to my Mac when instructed to via pwnagetool, I turned it OFF completely. This seems to have gotten me further and avoided the reboot loop I was stuck in earlier and had to get out of with the iRecovery app.

Doing these two things resulted in no errors in iTunes this time when restoring the custom ipsw file (where previously iTunes stopped the process with errors) and got the jailbreak done.
