Default Accidentally upgraded - stuck at slide to unlock

Hi I have a Iphone 2g. Originally it was American but I had someone to unlock it to work in the u.k. I updated it to the newest firmware of 3.1. My phone then said i didnt have a valid sim for it. I then tried downgrading it again. It sort of worked. In the corner it displays the right carrier. However all I can access is to be able to make emergency calls. However I can recieve text messages through it

Any help would be much appreciated.

iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.1.2 Using RedSn0w (Windows)

You can turn off the "unlock" option as once a 2G is unlocked it is permanently unlocked. You still need to "hacktivate" which means re-jailbreaking again after each OS update.

you mentioned updating to OS 3.1 but I suspect you meant you just clicked update in iTunes. If you did this in the last few days you either updated to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 and then you don't need to do the restore step.

If you are unsure then you can force your iPhone into DFU mode and then follow the redsn0w procedure from the beginning.
