Default Accidentally updated iPhone - help!!

Hi, after doing much lurking and reading of other peoples posts ive decided to make my own, not entirely sure I have posted in the right sub forum but I chose this one as redsn0w is the unlock i have been attempting.

I recently bought an iPhone 3G from a friend of my brothers, the phone was jailbroken (dont know what with) and none of the apps worked properly, generally wanted to wipe the phone and start a fresh. After asking friends with iPhones I gathered that unjailbreaking an iPhone is simply just restoring the phone in itunes.

The day after I bought the phone I restored the phone through iTunes just by clicking the restore button (downloaded the latest version of the iOS4, not sure what version of iOS4 but this was just over a week ago, so fairly recent)... this bricked my iPhone (I think). Unplugged from my PC the phone wanted me to connect to iTunes, connected without a sim it wants a sim, with my O2 sim (from old phone) it complains about the sim and says its not compatable or whatever, from what i gather this means it is bricked...

From here I followed a few guides about jailbreaking the iPhone thinking the result of which would let me in to unlock the phone, first jailbreak I ran redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 to jb iOS4, restored 4.0.1 through iTunes and 4.0 through redsn0w, this never worked after several attempts, it seems to all go smoothly but when it finishes and gets to the 'rest of this process takes place on your iphone' it wants a proper simcard again, ive also tried updating to 3.1.3 then JB'ing 3.0 with redsn0w 0.8, which is exactly the same.

I don't remember anything about the settings on the phone when i got it, ive no idea what the baseband was (but from what i gather this is changed when you update the firmware through itunes anyway?) and not 100% but think it was on firmware 3.1.3 when it was in its jailbroken state.

    help?

No this probably means you upgrades your baseband to a version that can't currently be unlocked

I'm a bit confused by the rest of your post. Did you restore to 4.0 before you tried redsn0w 0.9.5beta?

Do you have access to a mac? Try pwnagetool 4.1, it specifically allows you to "activate" the iPhone. This won't allow you to make phone calls but it should allow you to use the iPhone as an iPod until the next ultrasn0w unlock is released.

sorry jailbreak is what i meant.

i've managed to finally jailbreak the phone with the method i describe above, redsn0w 0.9.5 but using tiny umbrella's 'kick device out of recovery mode' function.

baseband is 5.14.02 and bootloader is 6.04, and at the moment im just waiting for ultrasn0w like you say...

    Default Bricked Iphone

I have the same problem, I bought an Unlocked and Jailbroken Iphone and bricked it. I do not know how it was jailbroken or unlocked and really have no idea how to proceed from this point on. Anyone have any ideas?

You have provided no real details about what you have done to your iPhone (or even if it is truly the same problem that this thread relates to)

Use tinyumbrella The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella to work out what baseband, iOS version and model iPhone you have. Then you can start to work out what is wrong.

Also the term bricked has very specific usage when referring to iPhones, the large majority of iPhones that users claim are bricked in fact are not bricked.

I used itunes to get the latest firmware version and now the phone is asking me to connect to itunes. I have a 3g iphone that was jailbroken and unlocked, but I tried to put my tmobile simcard in it and it wouldn't work. It kept saying that I had an invalid simcard. So I proceeded to hook it up to itunes to update. Now it is stuck on the connect to itunes screen, and I have looked up information and tried to download and install previous firmware but apparently that is not the route I need to take as nothing I have tried is working, I downloaded Ibrickr but it is not even recognizing the iphone. I am very new at this but I have looked up information on different sites and still have not found an answer.

ibrickr is NOT for a 3G iPhone - if you don't take the time to research this you could end up making things worse.

I gave you the right direction - use tiny umbrella to identify the iOS version, then use the right version of redsn0w redsn0w 0.9.6 BETA [iPhone Dev Team] (4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.1) or redsn0w 0.9.2 [iPhone Dev Team] (3.1.3, 3.1.2) and the right IPSW http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm to jailbreak.

If your baseband has been updated to 5.14.02 then you need to wait for a new ultrasn0w.

Yes, the baseband is indeed 05.14.02 so I need to wait on the new ultrasn0w. Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me with this, I will research the steps I need to take when the new ultrasn0w comes out.

Simply avoid loading iOS 4.2 (or any beta versions of iOS 4.2) and you should be able to unlock when the new ultrasn0w is released (no date for that yet)

Well for starters, your phone is not bricked. 'Bricking' is when the software becomes so corrupt you can't save it at all. You can still run on official firmware designed for AT&T.

Secondly, if you have iOS4.2.1 (which you might), then a full jailbreak/unlock is not available yet, but should be by the beginning of next week. If you go to the Dev-Team blog and follow them on twitter you will be updated.
