3.1.2 & stuck in DFU mode
My buddy that's stationed overseas sent me her phone to JB, now, its been a minute since I've done one of these. Her phone has 3.1.2, I downloaded redsnow, followed the instructions and now its stuck in DFU mode (all black screen). What are my options here? Download the 3.1.2 FM and restore it to that FM?
Edit: Forgot to mention that when I plug it in my Mac, iTunes detects a phone in Recovery mode. Any advice?

3G or 3GS?
If 3GS old or new bootrom?
I assume you have tried the basic hold power and home for 30 seconds to kickstart out if dfu mode.

The same problem I have with 3Gs new bootrom.
tried to JB with redsnow but I chose No instead of Yes. I didn't save SHSH
Tried almost everything but failed to wake my iPhone up. It has always black sceen and doesn't respond to anything.
iTunes suggests to update to 3.1.3 and it gives an error when I try to restore it to custom 3.1.2.
There are a lot of people with the same issue and no one can do anything!

You have no choice but to restore OS 3.1.3 and lose jailbreak and unlock for a period of time.
learn from this.. warnings about saving SHSH have been around since september 2009
Redsn0w is very clear about the imapct of answering incorrectly to the new/old bootrom question.

Restore never was a problem. So I didn't read the whole forum.
I was confused because there is a chance to have old bootrom even if the week is 42-25.
Anyway I agree it was my mistake.
P.S. I better chose blackrain. Geohot does not provide a chance to make a brick.

It is well documented on this ofrum how to find the actual iBoot version in bootrom via recovery or DFU mode. This is the only 100% way. week numbers can be wrong for refurbs and in grey areas like week 40-45 you need to check.

Yes but he provides a substandard jailbreak in other ways. Wait till you need AFC2 and find out it isn't installed.

I'm stuck in DFU on 3GS new bootrom after using blackra1n.
The first thing I do on a newly JB device is Cydia's make my life easier option. I did it for my older iPod touch 3rd gen, and even for this 3GS within minutes of purchasing and JBing it.
The deal is, I had used blackra1n RC3 to jailbreak on another computer. All fine. On my Mac I had blackra1n RC1 lying around which I did not bother to update. So when I needed to kickstart the 3GS after a powerdown I used RC1. Bam.
Just goes to say - each tool has its advantages and disadvantages - but a large majority of bricks are caused not by the tools but by careless use.
The phone is brand new, purchased after apple stopped signing 3.1.2. Talk about bad luck.
