Hey guys,

I have a 2G iPhone on FW1.1.2 BL4.6 unlocked with ziPhone some time ago.

I have finally decided that it is time to upgrade with the release of FW2.1 and have read through the iClarified instructions that have been linked to previously, and it is my understanding that if I follow these instructions I should have no problems.

However the only issue that I face is losing my contacts and text messages by restoring - I have read in this thread that there is a way to backup this data, possibly through iTunes and then restore the backup once I'm on 2.1, but I haven't been able to track down the actual process.

If someone could explain or link to this process that would be much appreciated.

well i updated my brothers iphone through itunes to a locked state, i then run quickpwn and loaded the ipsw 2.1 then the .bin files and i ticked the options unlock install cydia and installer and use custom boot logos. i was instructed to put the phone in DFU mode which i did and it updated the iphone no problems which worked a lot easier then i though all contacts backed up as normal...

i am still going to hold out for new winpwn because even though the update worked fine i want my custom boot logos LOL shame quickpwn doesent not let you change the boot logos to ones of ur choise.. i dont like the pineaple one :/

but for anyone who doesent care about that, its definatly worth it.

Just uncheck the custom logos option... I uncheck them all because I don't use Cydia and installer... just the jailbreak to be able to manipulate files easily.
But yeah, the pineapple is hideous

heh i use both cydia and installer but i rather use custom boot logos that winpwn has but quickpwn only gives u one option to use so i used quickpwn on my brothers phone as he does not care about the boot logos and for me ill wait for winpwn 3.0 .

its a shame quickpwn doesent let you chose boot logos also instead of giving you only 1 option..

btw anyone know what size the partition is with quickpwn? i usually set mine to about 550/600 or 700MB at most

You can still keep the default boot logos with quickpwn right? And I'd like to know about the root partition too.

yes you can keep the default ones that came with the iphone just simply dont tick use custom boot logos and it wont change them but if you do tick it you get the silver pineapple and the guy standing saying something for the restore logo..

Ok so I just pwned to 2.1 from 1.1.4 and everything went smooth (from what I can tell so far). I have the AddressBook.sqlitedb backed up from 1.1.4 and uploaded on 2.1. However, none of the contacts (200+) are showing up on the phone? What am I doing wrong?

well i restored from backup when i upgraded to 2.0.1 then 2.0.2 i had everything text messages pictures from before...

Yeah I read this post - the thing is, I'm not sure how to use/access the 'restore from backup using iTunes's option'? What I want to do is in some way save my contacts and messages (don't really care about apps) so after I've upgraded to 2.1 I can restore them back.

I have done a few searches but haven't been able to come up with anything... any help would be much appreciated.

I have one question:
Why does Quickpwn need both bootloaders: 3.9 and 4.6 to unlock?
Is it for bootneuter? Doesn't bootneuter already contain both of them (when you install it with Installer, you don't need to download the bootloaders separately).

Is bootneuter installed after quickpwn'age?
