Question [QuickPwn 2.1] How to activate but NOT unlock/install cydia

I need to take my iphone in for repair (dead strip on the touchscreen) so i''ve upgraded it to 2.1 using the standard iTunes restore, but i need to activate it without installing installer/cydia and without unlocking it so it's factory fresh. It has been unlocked before, so I need to re-lock it which I believe just using a standard restore via itunes does.

Is there any options for only activating a phone? I have tried to create my own ipsw file with PwnageTool and only activation enabled but when i try to do a custom restore I keep getting the 1600 itunes error in itunes 8.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi. Just grab any O2 Pay as you go sim and put it ito your iphone. It will still actvate it and you don't have to worry about being signed up to a contract.

thanks navco, are you sure it will work with a simplicity contract or should I go out and get an o2 pay as you go sim? I'm just a little nervous... really, really don't want it to be signed up!

If you don't want to risk it, then go to any O2 store and ask for a payg sim card.
They should give you one for free. This will definitely activate your iphone on the original iphone firmware.

I use my o2 simplicity sim to activate my iphone these days. You don't have to sign up for 18 month contract.

Found a few other people who had done it with a simplicity sim - so i did it and success!

Thanks very much for your help all. Let's see how I go at convincing apple to fix the dead strip on my touchscreen.

If you bought your iphone from an O2 store, I recommend taking it back to them rather than to Apple. O2 don't ask awkward questions unlike the gestapo geniuses at Apple. O2 just send it off for repair and if it can't be fixed, they will send you a brand new one, no questions asked.

It was purchased from an o2 store, but it was unlocked immediately before activation and therefore wasn't signed up to the 18 month contract. Wouldn't that be an issue for o2?
