iPhone won't turn on, Error 2001 in iTunes

I've read a lot of guides for dealing with the Error 2001 issue in iTunes, but as of yet I've had little success. Hopefully someone can give me some sound advice to get this problem resolved.


1) Attempted to jailbreak an iPhone 2G with Pwnage
2) It didn't turn on again after power off
3) iTunes won't recognise it
4) If I put the phone in to DFU mode, it I get the error:

"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. An unknown error occurred (2001)."

I'm using a Macbook (a year or two old) but if needed, I have a desktop running Windows I can use. Essentially, I'm just looking for any advice to help me get the iPhone firmware completely reloaded so the phone will function again.

Help?

Edit: Oh, epic failing. I found a tip about getting the phone out of DFU mode. It seems that was what it was stuck in.
