To me it seems the Power button hangs or is damaged.

BigBoss wrote me, no software could damage the bootloader or any other part of the iPhone this way, to not get into the DFU in any way. Maybe this is the solution?!
da Boss is right. if so you'd need to replace it.

    Default I need help

Hi, I'm new to this forum, and cant even seem to figure out how to post a topic so I'm replying to this one hoping someone would be able to help me.

I have an iphone 2G, jailbroken and unlocked. Today, i tried launching the phone app to make a call, but it kept crashing. As in it wouldnt dial, view recent calls or anything. I did the hard reset thing (held home and power button till it rebooted and the apple logo came back on) a couple of times, but it didnt work. And then i did what i thought would solve the problem. i hit "erase all content and settings"
and after more than 5hrs i still have the apple logo on the screen and nothing is working. I tried connecting to iTunes but it doesnt recognise the phone....simply put...NOTHING IS WORKING!!

    Please help!!

you fone is unlocked but not activated ...
what fw are you on....if its 2.2 or 2.1 use quickpwn 2.2 and jailbreak you iphone....

if its 1.1.4 you can jailbreak using iliberty+ but upgrading to 2.2 is recommended ...

    good luck..
iphone 2g at 3.0 using unofficial sim
