This is my first post here as well.

I just got an iPhone 2G from a friend of mine 2 days ago. Not having an iPhone plan or an unlimited data plan, I unlocked it and jailbroke it to 3.0 right after I got it. Not knowing much about iPhones I realized the battery drained to 1/4 life after about 4 hours of use. I also noticed it was getting hot in my pocket.

I didn't have anything else to compare this to since this is my first experience with the iPhone. I came across this post and was relieved to see that I wasn't the only one experiencing this. I just changed the Push setting to Off and rebooted the iPhone.

Let's hope this works, and thanks again. I will find a lot of good information here I can tell.

EDIT: This definitely works. Fixed all the problems, thanks.

Is there a way to only 'PUSH' for new email at preset intervals?
This way the iPhone is not constantly using up battery - yet you can still have relatively current mail updates.

Had the same issue with battery empty after one day with minimal usage.
After reading some posts, I disabled Edge by using BossPrefs and battery life came back to normal. (alle push and fetch settings were already disbled)

After two weeks I got my operator bill and my internet costs where enormous.
After a call to the operator I learned that the phone was connecting to the internet for a full hour with 5 minutes pause in between, no wonder my costs where high and the battery was empty after a day.

Still on 3.0, wonder if a newer version solves this issue.

to make sure you don't pay for charges you don't want to incur, make sure data roaming is off. make sure settings, general, network, cellular data network -> the apn, username, password is blank..

Default 2g battery wont stop draining

Ok, so i have read just about every persons problems with their 2G iphone and all of the resolutions, and nothing at all is working for my phone.
What could the problem possibly be?
i have turned off push notifications, restored my phone, let it drain out and then charge it up all night but its not successful
at first it will act like its going to stay charged by staying at 100 percent for a good minute but after about 45min it just goes out after an hour
    its ridiculous
i dont have many apps at all
what could be draining my battery that i can turn off?
    i have 3.1.3 software
    argh

    can somebody pweeeaaase help me

you could have a legitimately bad battery. Or another hardware problem.

Or you have not turned off push properly.
